(this is my first time posting here, so I apologize for any errors) I've been growing my hair out for the past 2 years after losing my previous WL hair during chemo. The texture of my hair is completely different than what it used to be. I have all of these flyaways that I assume are from my hair breaking? My hair looks so ugly unless I style it and I'm seriously considering cutting my hair short because of it. Is there anything I can do to help my hair? https://i.imgur.com/KEmW6Bx.jpghttps://i.imgur.com/yJs6QgP.jpghttps://i.imgur.com/PuX7obh.jpghttps://i.imgur.com/U39Eya8.jpg

I doubt those flyaways are breakage--my hair has flyaways just like those.

Hair is not uniformly one length at any given time, hairs are at varying stages of growth.

Can you also please make your pictures smaller?

How do I do that?

2 years and your hair is so long already! That is impressive growth speed! Your hair looks lovely to me, but maybe a bit dry? Are you using heat on your hair?

Those shorter hairs look like new growth to me, everyone has those. Your hair is lovely, enjoy it! :)

That is impressive growth.

Those flyaways are normal in long hair; we all have them. They aren't breakage. Hair grows in a cycle. Some hairs shed while others continue to grow, this means there's constantly new hairs growing in, they will never all be one length. It is *normal* and probably especially noticeable in long hair!

Are you using heat on your hair?

I rarely use heat and always make sure to use a heat protectant if I do.

Thanks for the replies. I feel better knowing that my hair isn't breaking off

Heat protectant doesn’t actually protect the hair as much as people think. You really should give it up if you can bear to. There are a number of alternative techniques that give similar or same results

Is that why I have so many hairs all over of all different lengths!? This may not be breakage. I am also relieved.

Yep, if hair didn't grow in cycles, we'd all be bald at one point, due to all hairs shedding and wanting to regrow all at once. So it's a normal process. I can't believe the number of posts we had on this matter so far, though. It's so odd. :flower: I am so surprised that people don't think this is "normal". :)

I knew about the cycles, I think I thought they would have cycles, but all the hairs would be about the same length even though they were in a different stage of their cycle, for some reason?! I thought that short hairs were just broken hairs mainly. Now that I type it out, it actually sounds a bit strange that I did think that.

I thought the same thing when I first joined LHC, that there was some secret to having all the hairs being about the same length instead of a cloud of shorter hairs sticking out all over the place. It does make sense that it would be this way, however. After all, we see shed hairs in our combs and brushes every day.

I doubt it that those flyaways are damage too. I get flyaways too all of the time but that doesn't mean it is damage. Your hair looks just fine to me. Just make sure you condition and keep your hair moisturized at all times. I wish my hair was as long as yours is now. I got a couple of inches to go before I reach your length.

You are suppose to shed 50-100 hairs everyday. i honestly wouldn't worry to much about the shedding in the comb.

I think my hair is the same way.
It’s mostly just new hair growth and frizz.
I have a bit of breakage too though. It’s a mix for me. Lol.

I think the breakage is if you have white dots on your hair. I get them often not sure why since im keeping my hair up or in braid all the time. But if you notice white dot on the end of your strand I think it broke off. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong .

It's beautiful. You said you lost your hair during chemo, how so?

I'm not worried about shed hairs. Seeing them made me realize that if hairs are shedding out every day, then new hairs are growing in every day (pretty much), and that's why I have shorter hairs sticking out all over the place.

I would say it's just your hair growing at different lengths. You do have a lot of hair which is great! I would say if you want it more even get an inch or so off to blunt-up your hemline :)

I’d be curious to hear more about your routine. In my case, my routine affects how visible my flyaways are. (Wash routine / products used/ dry or oily hair can all affect things)

Also on wash day they always stick out no matter what (helps to wash at night so they calm down by morning).

Nice growth in only 2 years!

My hair has a lot of breakage and flyaways as well, and it's really frustrating. I have baby fine hair, and I don't know how to take care of it to keep it from inevitably breaking.
