Hello, I've cut my rather long hair in December right after my marriage and learning that I'm pregnant because I sort of felt like not wanting to take care of the long hair any longer. Of course it didn't take long before I wanted my long hair back. Now it has grown quite a bit and I wear it up 99% of the time. Usually I do this with a claw clip similar to this one: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/HOT-SALE-New-Practical-Black-Plastic-Butterfly-Style-Hairpin-Hair-Claw-Clip-For-Ladies/32630491175.html
This is mainly because I'm not yet able to put it in any other 'up style'. Since I almost never see anyone on this forum talking about these claw clips or using them I would like to know if I'm missing something. Are these claw clips super damaging when worn frequently?

Claw clips are fine, as long as they don’t have any roughy bits that could snag your hair. If they do, just file the rough bits down.
Plenty of people wear them, they’re very practical. People tend to get more excited about hair sticks and forks though, because there are so many pretty variations, so claw clips don’t get spoken about so much.

There are some threads on claw clips on the forum. I don't have the brainpower to do the search and copy/paste the links, but if in Google you search 'longhaircommunity claw clips' the first results should be the most useful :flower: (Or just search the forum, but I find that far more clunky than using Google - though if you know how to do a site search in Google that works too.)

I wear a mini octopus clip aaaaaaallll the time. Less conspicuous than a fork for cinnabuns at work. Also I'm not good at securing cinnabuns with sticks/forks.

I love scunci octopus clips with the grippy texture inside. They are perfectly comfortable and stay in all day. I'm not a fan of any other hair accessories really, claw clips are my main thing.

Claw clips are fine! I wore one from shoulder/APL all the way to waist/hip, when I could first manage to do a bun on my hair. First in a peacock twist, later in a log roll type of style. I loved it, but as my hair grew more weight the clip became a little uncomfortable, luckily I was at the point to start wearing a bun with a fork.

I’m a huge fan of claw clips and I don’t think they’re damaging. If you’re worried about getting caught in the hinge there’s a few i saw at the store that covers the entire hinge in silicone and it’s attached to the plastic of the claws. If I can find a web link for them I’ll try to come back and post it.
In fact I should probably switch back to claw clips for awhile. My scalp has been cranky and those have always been the best for me for that...
ETA: Found them! http://www.scunci.com/cushion

Love claw clips! I am wearing a small octopus clip right now. I find them to hold my hair without hurting the best out of all my hair toys whether its long or short.
akurah those claw clips look really neat.

I use claw clips all the time because my hair's a big fan of falling out of buns, so to be lazy instead of re-bunning, I just flip over part of it and clip it up again, lol. I actually find less damage from them because they distribute the weight more evenly across your head so you don't get as much hairline breakage.

Claw clips are great! There's a woman with the pseudonym JJJLonghair who has floor length hair that she puts up with 2 claw clips :)

I use those all the time! Right now with peacock twists and half ups, but also to secure buns when it was much longer.

I am a huge fan of claw clips. They are not damaging to the hair at all. I wear them all of the time.

For those who wear them, what styles do you recommend ? :) Something that keeps the ends tucked in (not exposing them) and preferably uses just one big clip? I have few of them and I only use them for holding my hair up when I shower.

Claw clips aren’t terribly comfortable to sleep with; but that is probably just my own personal criteria speaking. Otherwise, they are good for holding styles up, and tend to go under hats better than a lot of other options. They just aren’t as fun or sexy as sticks, forks or moons.

I wear them a couple of times a week, Eternally in amber makes some really pretty, really sturdy ones.

There are some quite pretty ones but the visible spring at the hinge ruins it for me. Also, my wardrobe is vintage inspired so claw clips just don't "go." It's just an aesthetic thing for me.

I have a few of different sizes, but some of my nicest ones have broken and I wish I could get small ones made of metal so they could last longer... I'm sure someone will point me to some website with some ;)
I love how easy they are to use and I use two small to hold the slightly unraveled bun on top of my head for sleeping.

I love to use them around the house. Would like to buy more. I have 2 big ones and keep hair in either of them. But I think it wold be more practical to use small ones to secure the bun on top of my head with them :).

Claw clips don't generally work well for me, and they hurt my head. I have found linzi clips hold my bun better.

You can twist and tuck the ends in almost like you are about to twist your hair in a bun, and then apply the jaw clip.
