Occasionally I come across broken hairs, where the hair is irreparably (I assume) twisted and the broken bit is just sort of flapping about. I cut them off, but I am interested in what actually has happened in the hair structure when this occurs. Can anyone explain?

The hair cuticle was damaged ( "eroded" ) in some way, but I don't know why that exactly happened maybe it's due to tension or chemical damage.

They are broken mechanically I think, maybe due to friction. What I mean is what Crna Kosa was after, like what actually happened inside/on the hair. :)

These broken hairs I talk about look like an L or similar.

Ah ok I see. That’s what I was thinking, didn’t want to assume. I agree it’s mechanical. Once a little damage is done it probably continues until the hair breaks off or it cut off.
