Hey, i'm not sure if we have a thread for this, but i would Really love to see everyone's pictures when they just started growing out their hair with the help of LHC and how it is Now.

I'll start :)

I joined LHC almost five years ago, in 2013. I just had cut and hennaed my hair:
This is my very first length shot LHC style.

https://i.imgur.com/WwCHDUG.jpg

I grew for more than 2 years until i reached past waist. I hennaed my hair for about a year and a half, until i decided to grow out natural.

https://i.imgur.com/YQQ0jxm.jpg

And then i cut my hair into a short layered bob, getting rid of the henna.

https://i.imgur.com/rx2NKpI.jpg

I maintained this style for about a year or two, while also dyeing my hair dark brown... I kept cutting my hair shorter and shorter. My last big cut was August 13, 2017, leaving me with This much hair:

And here i am now, 10 months and one trim later:

So tell me Your LHC story! :)

oh yes I want to play :p

I started lurking in 2009 and actually joined in October 2010 when my hair was like this: (this is about may)

https://s26.postimg.cc/j7m2c8l95/undercut.jpg (https://postimg.cc/image/xe1t7gw45/)
about shoulder-length and with an undercut.

In 2011 my hair is like this:

https://s26.postimg.cc/8l9y31te1/halflang.jpg (https://postimg.cc/image/xeji3pced/)

This is while using henna and still washing traditionally

Then there was a period where I tried everything from pea powder to soap to wash my hair, I've put avocado, yoghurt, egg and whatnot in my hair.
Some with great result but after all the experiments my hair was quiet fried. (and I would show you butI can't seem to upload to postimage at the moment)

So I need to go to 2014: when I cut my hair
https://s26.postimg.cc/v8z7hhyix/IMG_2094_zpscqfycqbp.jpg (https://postimg.cc/image/4nwolxw5h/)

And this is about may this year:
https://s26.postimg.cc/r0uf0fzsp/IMG_2911.jpg (https://postimg.cc/image/wc9bl5lv9/)

using my own homemade shampoo and conditioner: not totally natural but without sulfates

The picture on the left was taken sometime in the beginning of year 2017, it's really poor quality, our bathroom is very poorly lighted and I was just trying to check my very first self cut hemline. That gives also some idea of my natural haircolour, sort of light brownish. And then I hennaed a couple of times, and the pic on the right was taken couple of weeks ago. I don't quite like what henna did to my hair, I wish I hadn't done it. I think my hair was in better shape and maybe even a bit thicker before.

I found LHC sometime between the hennaings.

I think your hemline is a bit more even on the first pic, while in the second pic you have a V hemline, that's why your hair looks "thinner". :)
Sad that you are disappointed with henna, but i think your hair still looks pretty.

Your natural hair color is beautiful though. :crush:

Thank you. I'm having a bit mixed emotions about henna, still. I didn't quite feel comfortable in my natural hair colour either.

 WOW what a pain to get this pic up!

This is 20 months growth with a two inch trim last October. In the first pic I had cut own hair, can you tell? ;) I had to go get it fixed and lost another inch if I remember correctly. I didn’t take a pic of the fixed cut, but it was horrible!

I have no (behind) picture of my chin length bob (it was layered very prettily though), sadly, but imagine a chin length, straight brushed bob to what is in my signature now (or thereabouts in length); it's gotten a bit longer since, and I'm sitting on the ends. LOL!

This is Jan 2012 at my last pixie trim to May 2018. Lots of mistakes in between with meant I lost years of growth thanks to bleach and unnecessary haircuts. I'm only just now starting to feel it is long.

Oh gosh, don't ask... LOL! When I first got here I had a chin length bob, then I experimented with dyes and lots of henna, got a hair dye disaster and had it cut back to chin. Then after that I had a perm, and went from hip to BSL again, so it took me 10 years! But I had lots of "issues" in between. If I'd have left it alone I might have done it in half that time.

Loving this thread, it's super inspiring to see that so many have started with really short hair like me! Makes me feel like one day I might really get there hehe

So basically, in simplest form my timeline is something like this:
https://thumbs2.imgbox.com/8f/fe/nvd4yKY3_t.jpg (http://imgbox.com/nvd4yKY3) https://thumbs2.imgbox.com/09/2d/qvfdQXKR_t.jpg (http://imgbox.com/qvfdQXKR) https://thumbs2.imgbox.com/57/2c/rpgoFPrf_t.jpg (http://imgbox.com/rpgoFPrf) https://thumbs2.imgbox.com/71/14/QmHIMV6z_t.jpg (http://imgbox.com/QmHIMV6z)

We start in early 2015 (image number 1), when I decided to get a pixie and immediately started growing it out (not the first time I'd done this - my hair would always get to about shoulder/collarbone and then I'd get bored and chop it all off).

By January 2017 it was around collarbone length or thereabouts (picture 2), but suuuuper fried :( I'd made the mistake of trying to remove black box dye (that had been in my hair about a year) and my hair paid the price for it. It sort of looked ok, but it was such a pain to manage. I ended up chopping it off to about chin length, but even there it was still damaged enough that after about a month it was just as bad at the ends as it was before I'd cut it.

At this point, I decided to go ahead and do the World's Greatest Shave since I figured my best option would be to just get rid of everything and start over anyway, so why not raise some money while I'm at it? In the end I raised about $800, and shaved my head to about 4mm all over in June 2017 (picture 3).

Which brings us to now, a year post-shave! (picture 4). I'm sitting around one inch away from finally reaching chin length now, and feeling committed to not touching my regrowth or boredom-trimming my hair anymore. I'm hoping that being part of this community will help me to finally achieve my life-long desire for long hair, which has always been hindered in the past by my impulsive nature. Please don't let me cut my hair or bleach it anymore! Thank you~

Totally up to you, if it's in you to be impulsive it's going to be hard to fight! BTDT, waisted about 5 years in my growth process on dyes and bleach and all of that, until I had a disaster happen (chemical cut & burn) and as of that moment I went cold turkey all virgin hair. No more! It really shook me to my core when that dye disaster happened. My hair was totally ruined. At some point you gotta break the cycle.

Hope you get there. Hang in there! :D :flower:

Thank you! And wow, that sounds like some hair disaster D: I feel that mine is going to end up there again if I don't quit now, but at least I can keep doing fashion colours in the already-bleached portion so hopefully that'll be enough to keep me satisfied haha.
Every time I've cut my hair shorter, it's been because I'm just bored and want to change something about my look and not because I stop wanting long hair. I regret it every single time! So more than being "not allowed" to cut it, it's more that I need something/someone to remind me what I want long-term ^^

rika_jane this is not meant to encourage you to chop, but the shaved look really suits you well.

That being said, we have a two week rule around here (wait two weeks before doing something drastic to your hair AND discuss it here on LHC first!), and you can invoke that when you are toying with doing something drastic to your hair.

I started growing my hair and lurking the forum at this point (by the end of 2015):

https://forums.longhaircommunity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=32567&d=1530666756

When I reached shoulder I did cut a fringe I started paying more attention to my hair, and last winter I figured out a routine that works for me and went all-in into my hair growth journey, joining the community in January. I mantained bangs until last month when I decided I’m growing them out. And here we are now:

Wow, I'm loving this thread! I'll join too.

I started in 2015 with a short layered bob:
https://forums.longhaircommunity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=19622&d=1446411548

Then I grew to collarbone and maintained for a while, until spring 2017, when I decided to grow again.

Now I'm at BSL:

Edit: sorry that the first picture is so big! I have no clue how to make it smaller.

I have always hated my hair, I remember in school being so jealous of the girls who seemed to just have effortlessly silky hair whilst mine kind of laid in clumps. I just used to wear it in a scraggly low ponytail all lf the time. I was also a proper greaseball... nothing I did would stop the grease in those teenage years!

When I was 18, I decided to bleach my hair. I went to a college salon who foiled it, and now looking back... they did a really great job at getting me to the shade they did in one application but I didn’t know that at the time. I was expecting blond hair not, somewhat orangey, highlighted hair... So I took it uopn myself and bleached it at home. Not just once either, almost every day for two weeks. I used Jerome Russell bleach and sometimes that Live Platinum blonde box dye. I got to platinum, my hair was trashed.

https://s19.postimg.cc/8win6w3mb/13_F2_F051-01_CB-49_FE-_A316-05_F980_DB9_E44.jpg

It was so burned that I was using a body hair razor to try and razor out the matted clumps of frizz. I kept this look for years, getting better at home bleaching (still not great though!). I was able to eventually section my hair and get mostly just my roots. The ends kept snapping. My BSL hair had eventually hit SL with no cuts or trims, a proper backwatprds move for someone who always wanted long hair. So I decided to get it cut as short as I could bear and try to grow it out better. I got some pink in the fringe too, which I loved!

https://s19.postimg.cc/99a1d2e6b/EDD3_EEE4-597_B-40_B6-8_B15-_C612_AF618_B84.jpg

Didn’t last long before I started heavy bleaching again. Only this time, I started using really long 24” clip-in extensions as well.

I started experimenting with different colours, mostly pink. Fun times!

https://s19.postimg.cc/74poc0mub/800_FAFEA-7_D7_C-4_D76-_B09_C-_DA756487961_A.jpg

https://s19.postimg.cc/djop8aw0j/A881_E1_EF-8_EFA-4_A90-9_A12-559_B68522358.jpg

My hair never grew last SL even though I never trimmed or had it cut, it just snapped off and stayed the same length. I started working in a place that wouldn’t allow ‘unnatural’ hair colours and was forced to stop the funky dye jobs. I let the pink fade and havent touched that sort of dye again.

https://s19.postimg.cc/sr4ot15z7/3_AF1_F2_F8-110_C-4_F49-903_A-36_C2_C14789_D7.jpg

This was 5 years ago now. Excuse the face! Friends kids birthday party! Once the pink was gone, I dyed it brown and left it alone!

I used to be so embarrassed when I had a boyfriend and they would try to play with my hair but their fingers would just get tangled and rip through it. I hated people touching my hair and vowed to stop bleaching so I could enjoy some head scratches!

My hair still didn’t gain any length for another 2 years.

Over the last 3 years I have been having one yearly trim and my hair is really starting to get better! I think almost all of the old bleach damage is gone now. :)

Here is a photo from my first day of deciding to join LHC and stop lurking and now. I do occasionally chuck a brown box dye over my hair... for grey coverage now. Haha

I'm almost where I want to be, so thought I'd have a look at what was the norm for me a few years before LHC, where I started growing longer than ever, and the current state of a'hairs.

Pre-LHC (but not counting the decades before that), my razor-thinned-out hair looked ratty most of the time, I was fighting an unruly texture that I thought was straightish (but it never got pin-straight with a hot iron ), and my length wouldn't quite get to BSL before I restyled the lot with a chop of some sort. Since 2014 I've actively grown from APL+ to almost FTL, with some big and small snips to adjust the hemline and layers in between.

Feb 2016:

Wow such great progress pics! You all came such a long way! ThoughI'd share my journey..

https://forums.longhaircommunity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=37558&d=1562329346

I oficially cut out all bleach in nov. '16 but i 'lost' (deleted) those pics of the first chop.
First one is from jan '17 a few months later, had a whole lot of short pieces on top..

https://forums.longhaircommunity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=37556&d=1562328084

A year growing out all those short pieces and quite a few trims to even things up led me to this in feb '18

https://forums.longhaircommunity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=37557&d=1562328283

and now, today in july '19 i'm here:

https://forums.longhaircommunity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=37555&d=1562327404

I did trim quite a few times along the way but i'm glad the worst is over and start to enjoy my hair more every time.. never want to go this short again!

Happy growing everyone! You an do it!

Thought I would share this here. The first photo is the only pic I have from the beginning of my journey. I was lurking here in 2015 and learned about neglect so I didn't take any photos for about a year once I was already MBL+. I joined two months later after that pic. Thus begins my journey of hitting each milestone along the way.

https://i.postimg.cc/Ssxg1Gb6/20190705-231904.jpg (https://postimages.org/)

My growth was trimmed barely a handful of times, until I reached tailbone, then I maintained for 6 months.

Gorgeous! :flower: Did you ever find out what was causing the hair loss...and the cure?

Thank you! ❤️ I've been struggling with digestive issues for the past 6 years or so& when I first got sick, I lost about 20lbs & weighed in at 76lbs at my lowest. I could barely eat anything. So for me, it was a combination of malnutrition/weight loss/being underweight.

Wonderful hair! Did you give up growing out the dye though?

Thank you so much! ❤️ I gave up dye for a good year or so, but eventually ended up caving when about half the dye was grown out & redying it. I don't dye it often, maybe 3 or 4 times a year, but I just can't give up the black hair lol.
