and I'm trying to figure out how to do it and what products to use. I told her to bring dry shampoo as that will give her more volume and texture. I like the smoother one but she said she was happy with either.

Any tips and suggestions are much appreciated.

Thanks, guys!

Sorry, guys, I can't figure out how to get these pics to show up in the thread so that maybe they aren't so tiny. :(

They look like side Dutch braids to me - the second one looks like it has a lot of pancaking to make it really voluminous(and it might be a Dutch fishtail as well, I couldn't really tell).

ETA. So I would bring all her hair to one side and just Dutch braid(like a french braid but under rather than over).
When I braid I don't really use any product - I comb and brush then braid.

Remove the &thumb=1 from the end of the addresses and they load as their proper size

I'm not sure what an inverted french braid is but these appear to be dutch braids.

I think they're the same. The strands pass under each other instead of over the top. I think the first few inches, though, looks like started out as a regular French braid?

That is a regular dutch braid, not fishtail :) it's like a french braid, but inverted. You can find plenty of youtube tutorials if you look for dutch braid :flower:

Yep those are Dutch braids. You braid outside in, instead of inside out... if that makes sense (it's in the finger setting).

Some say a Dutch is even easier than a French, I've always loved French braids, but struggled with Dutch ones.

When I said that I could only see the small thumbnail so I wasn't quite sure + most of the fishtails I've seen in tutorials are so pancaked that they look a bit like that anyway

I prefer to do Dutch braids on myself, because for some reason it's easier for me to keep the strands neatly separated.

I do them on myself.

First one I’m not sure, would need to see a picture from behind. The second one is a Dutch braid.

My idea of an inverted French braid is this (You can do the bun or not, just secure it with a clip and let the rest of the hair fall):
