I am trying my best not to scrunch, and in my search, I found the Rake and Shake method. It was developed to encourage curls/waves by Ouidad. I would like to share a video here for the benefit of everyone who was not aware:

Please share your thoughts. Have you tried it?

I've never tried Ouidad products or the rake and shake method. I guess I've tried half the method because I'll rake whatever product I'm using through my hair, then twirl sections around my fingers to encourage defined curls to form. My natural texture is on the cusp between wavy and curly, closer to the wavy side. I get good results this way.

That method is for tighter patterns, IMMHO. I would stick to scrunching. The method never worked for me, what works for me best is just scrunching my hair up while applying my stylers.

I don't know why I don't feel comfortable with the idea of scrunching. But I suppose I'll try it this week and see how it goes.

See I think that a lot of techniques full curlies can use often fall flat for wavies. For example, the Denman brush is used a lot by curlies but the way it's used is to pull the hair with the brush and then let go so it springs back. Wavy hair doesn't do that so much, and is more likely to just be straightened by that technique. I feel like it may be similar with the rake and shake.

If I did that, my hair would be SO frizzy. I have learnt to leave my hair well alone while drying. I suspect this only works if you aren’t prone to frizz

Rake and shake is my default for curls. I used to go to the Ouidad studio in NYC 15 years ago and they made me like my curls after years of battling them. For me the scrunching leaves my hair super frizzy, but rake and Shake gives me pretty, large, defined curls. Another part of the rake and shake is when you find small sections that didn't form with the shake you wrap it around your finger to get the curl back. Usually I do that with the shorter front sections of my hair.

This is more for wurly and curly hair. Someone with our hair type will find any sort of raking or shaking results in straighter hair!

As Lapushka said, rake and shake works better for tight curl patterns. I'd rather stick to scrunching.

Scrunching doesn't give me lasting waves. My hair dries nicely, but within a few hours, my waves start to look terrible. They become scraggly, and uneven, just doesn't look good.
I know nothing about the rake and shake method though, but what works OK for me is twisting it as it dries. My waves still don't last into the next day, but my hair doesn't look bad when they become very loose either.
