Hello All,
I have 1c/2a hair with tighter waves near the neck. Today, I was able to achieve an almost straight look with the following:
1. Used sesame oil instead of coconut oil to pre condition
2. Used a shampoo for damage repair instead of my usual clarifying shampoo (previously I used a clarifying shampoo every other day)
3. Used a Shea moisture wash out conditioner for the first time as I never use a rinse out conditioner
4. Used my usual silicone serum
5. I didn’t put my hair up in a turban while drying but let it air dry when down and untouched
I have no idea what helped, guess it was because I didn’t plop my hair or put it up in a turban twist while drying? Let me know what you think. Either ways, I’m thrilled with the results

Yay!! I'm glad you finally found a method that works for you :heartbeat
I think the whole process sounds pretty healthy and moisturizing, with no real manipulation :) Excellent!

Have you checked for protein in your repair shampoo? I've noticed my hair is much more straight when I use repairing conditioner (it has keratin). Air drying without twisting may be helpful as well!

That's awesome. Though I don't think it would ever work for my hair. Only once did I accidentally achieve straight hair and that was from a greek yogurt deep treatment. My hair was so sleek. soft, nearly bone straight..oh I loved it..but of course I could never recreate it.

Thats a good routine, im pretty sure i would try this a few years ago when i was crazy over having straight hair. Im not anymore interested in straight hair, but it seems a pretty nice routine for beautiful straight hair!

I have heard of "soybean" oil making the hair straighter, more elongated (don't know where I heard it), but that's about it.

Thank you :) It's not as impressive as your straight look after your heatless styling though

I did check and there is some protein in both the shampoo and conditioner, I think perhaps my hair loves protein. Good catch!

Wow, I should try greek yogurt. What did you do? Why were you not able to recreate it?

Thank you. You have nice hair, really like the curls :) my hair type (1c/2a) looks better when its less wavy.

I don’t mind at all:) ( PS, I’m new to posting so hopefully I quoted that properly)
I will start off that I have extremely sensitive scalp so I don’t use very many products. I start off with Calia Hydrating Shampoo and I take some good time to properly massage my scalp gently. Then I use the Calia Hydrating Conditioner. I start on the ends and slowly de tangle. Then I add a bit more conditioner and I put my hair up in a claw clip to allow it to soak in a bit more. I rinse with cold water and before I get out of the shower (so my hair is soaking wet) I add a small amount of conditioner to just the ends of my hair. I dry my hair with a t-shirt (not scrunching) and then brush it with my wooden brush. I HAVE to brush it after a shower or it goes crazy. I brush very slowly and gently. I allow my hair to air dry, then after completely drying I add one drop (literally 1 drop lol) of The Innate Life Hair Elixir Oil to the ends of my parted hair. Afterwards it’s so soft, so shiny and is the closest things “straight with slight curve at the bottom” that i can achieve without heat. The drop of oil helps to tame any frizz from combing the curls.
I have SL hair and I’m hoping that as it grows longer the weight of the hair will pull the waves/curls a bit straighter. Hopes this help:)

Yep. Baby oil, currently, in my oil rinse (see signature). Either my Johnson & Johnson one or my more natural baby oil that is basically sweet almond oil with a few herbal extracts.

After shampooing I applied plain Greek yogurt from tip to root. Twisted it up and covered it with a bag and let it set for 30minutes. Then I rinsed it out and finished with a little conditioner. Finally, let air dry.
Not sure why I could not recreate it, maybe the straight effect was just a fluke...who knows
