View Full Version : Hercules Sagemann Seamless Comb - Hate it.

Received it today and I didn't think it was possible to actually hate a comb, but I can honestly say I hate this one.

First, even though it's seamless, it's not smooth. No better than if it actually had a seam. For whatever reason, the inside of the teeth, the part that combs your hair is not polished and therefore very rough.
It also claims the comb is anti-static, absolutely not. As I was using it I heard that popping sound you get when you comb/brush you hair and it becomes full of static.

Anyway, can someone recommend another company? I'd really love a comb that has polished teeth on the inside, not just the outside for show, as well as something that does not cause static.

Sorry to hear you are disappointed, I've never heard of these.

When I first joined LHC I immediately bought two combs from hair sense (http://hairsense.com/combs/bone-combs/), one wide tooth, and one is half medium, half fine (#206 and 217 from her website) and I LOVE them. They are the only thing I use. I even bought a wet brush after hear all the raving and the combs are so much better. Mine are perfectly smooth, absolutely no seams or rough parts and just glide.

Oh, and they're cheap!

And one more note, they're true to their word that they are static free.

This is the seemless comb I have, it's very smooth. I liked it enough that I also bought a fine tooth.

Eternally in Amber make really nice seamless combs. I’ve had mine for 2 years and still love it.

I have a similar comb, but the writing is different (the word "APART" is not on there). Where'd you get it from? Mine is smooth. I have several from this brand. And it's all good.

Amazon. I'm returning it today.

@Lapushka, the inside of the teeth (the part that goes through the hair), are they as smooth and shiny as the outside of the comb on yours?

I just contact the company directly through their FB page. Asked them about the teeth on their combs, and told them what I got. Maybe they're selling fakes on Amazon? Or maybe that's how the company
is making their combs these days.

Yes! Smooth the comb over. They are rectangular-like teeth, but they are smoothly finished.

this is what the teeth look like on mine. notice how rough they are on the inside.
one pic with flash, the other without.

No those appear normal; like I said they are rectangular teeth - that's the way the comb is; but the finish is smooth on mine.

Yah, that's what I was wondering about, the "finish." The static that this comb causes is also unreal. My regular plastic combs aren't this bad.

Contacted Amazon and they already refunded me and sent me a return label.

The key thing is, if you don't like it, you don't like it.

If you feel this way about the HS comb, then I think you'd feel the same about the "Hairsense" bone volume comb, but that's an alternative. I don't think these are as easy to send back, though.

If you've got good tools already, just stick with those!!!

I second Frankenstein. The combs are also great if you're tender headed.

I personally find the EIA combs *very* flimsy. Quite bendy too. My HS and Hairsense are totally unbendable, which I like in a comb. Well, I've put my combs to the side to favor the Tangle Teezer (TT) and Wet Brush (WB), far less breakage!

seconding a vote for Eternally in Amber. All my combs are by this company and I've given several as gifts which are well loved by the recipients... one with extremely baby fine shorter hair, and one with medium to coarse 3b hair. I have about 5 myself of different sizes, colors, and shapes.

I've just bought a comb from Sägemann, fell in love - and then realised it has a seam!?!?! Are their seamless combs a specific line? Otherwise it's basically perfect, but I'm not sure I have the physical ability to file away the seam and I'd be worried about damaging the finish between the teeth if I tried.

This is the one I bought https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B016IY0592/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 at first I wondered if the seam could be because it was maybe a fake as the price was so low (well, it was at £6.75 but it's gone up now) but the seller is definitely called Hercules Sägemann, and it was dispatched from Germany

I have an ivory "Madora" comb, and it is superb. The inside of the teeth is just as smooth as the outside of the comb, no rough areas, no seams, and it glides through hair like butter! I've had mine 4-5 years and it's still as perfect as the day I bought it.

I don't have that one, but my ones (I have 3) are seamless.

I have this one

Well that's what I'm wondering, but apart from the seam I can't find any other indication that it may not be the genuine article. I bought it thinking it was genuine, obviously!

Edit: I've sent them an e-mail after finally finding their website https://www.hercules-saegemann.de/contact/

Wonder what they'll answer; I took a good look at mine. And nope. My handheld one is seamless. My rake (magic one) has a seam running over the top, but it is barely there, and when you run your finger over it, it's flawless. So I can't say anything bad about it.

Maybe they changed how they make them?

I am wondering if the carbon combs are different - they talk about seamless with their ebonite / vulcanised rubber, but I couldn't find anything about carbon combs, so that's what I asked them specifically. If they aren supposed to be seamless then it's not a fake, but I'll feel a bit stupid and actually pretty annoyed because I can't find similar teeth width and spacing so far on anything else - the closest is maybe their weird roller comb(!) but even there the teeth are closer together.

I also have several Sägemann ebonite combs and love them. As far as I know are only the ebonite ones seamless.

I bought the Magic Star, Magic Star Super and Magic Star Mini.

I think my one is ebonite as well, if I'm not mistaken. At least my black wide-spaced pocket comb is seamless; no doubt!

I had one of their combs and returned it.
As you can see, the texture on the inside of the teeth is very rough, not smooth at all. So even though they advertise as seamless, it's no better than combs with seam.. at least it was just as rough on my hair.
And yes, mine was authentic. Yours might be the same?

What's the spacing between the teeth, measurement-wide please? I've heard good things about Swissco and the listing you linked is one of the only affordable ones (for a UK buyer) I've found.

Sorry for consecutive posts but I completely forgot and will forget if I don't say now - I've heard nothing back, not even in my spam folder. Not impressed!

And this is the original seller? Like HS themselves? Or a reseller on Amazon. Sorry, I forgot where you got them.

Sent HS themselves an e-mail through their website.
(Though I got the comb from Amazon, ostensibly from HS as the seller but I couldn't be 100% certain.)
