I'm growing my hair and keeping a right side-shave. I need ideas of what to do as it grows. Thanks.

This is the only picture i have showing my side-shave. Resemblance to Michael Myers unintentional.

I don’t have any pics but grew out an undercut that wrapped around both sides—basically a buzz cut with a long sideswept top part/bangs (I’m explaining this well huh :p). When I grew it out I kept the top longer for a while and then cut it to all one length and trimmed the back a time or two before I decided to just deal with the mullet. I think once I decided to grow it out I just put up with a lot of awkward hair for a while until I could use Bobby pins or bandannas to keep it out of the way. I think how you grow it out would depend on what your hair goals ultimately are and how high your tolerance is for looking less than perfectly coiffed in the mean time :).

ETA: ahhh just read your post again and saw that you want to keep the shave, so maybe others will have better styling suggestions. Wreckinbelle comes to mind but I don’t think I’ve seen her around in a while...

This is the only pic of my side-shave too . i did nothing special when I had my side-shave . Just things I do with my non shaved hair . But what I love to do was bunning and french braiding my longer side . It looked soooooo much more badass !!

Watching with interest. I like the style, but couldn't pull it off. My hairs too thin and the only bits I can dye blue are the bits I'd have to shave!

That's a lovely photo valkyrie90 :)

I'd love to see updos. I plan to keep the shaved side. I'm curious if it looks 'unbalanced'?

I thought I had some photo's, but apparently, I only have this one and my undercut was already growing too long here.

You're literally asking whether an asymmetrical haircut looks...asymmetrical. The answer is absolutely yes.

The question is whether you like the look.

Going back to the classics, Cyndi Lauper always wore a shaved side do, as did Salt n Pepa, and a number of other artists. They played up the asymmetry to an effect that became iconic.

Currently there are a number of similar styles being seen in the show Vikings. A lot of braids and twists, too.

The question isn't whether it looks asymmetrical. The answer to that is yes. It is whether you have the features and the volume to support the style.

And whether you can and will wear it confidently.

There's a girl in one of my classes who has a side shave and about armpit length hair. She wears it braided over one side and it looks quite nice. I would think a side bun would look cool too, especially with accent braids. I like the look myself, but my hair's already too thin to shave a portion of it off.

I guess a better phrasing would be does it look odd. And, yes, it all depends on what I like and how I feel. There's not going to be symmetry. I have a very thin face and I'm unsure about it getting longer. My hair is curly and I haven't had it longer than my current length and a side shave.

In another thread I asked about the suitability of fancy buns for men. Odd? That ship has already sailed, LOL!

Is a side shave odd? Yep! Can some wear them successfully? Absolutely! There's a woman higher in the thread who absolutely rocks it. But not everybody does.

Can YOU wear it? Dunno. I can't picture it on you, unfortunately. When I try I just draw a blank.

You draw a blank (as in no image comes to mind) or a blank as in, nope, not going to work.

My face is so thin that I'm not sure myself at times. I'll have to keep growing it and find out.

I'm always worried my face is too broad, round however you want to call it.
It doesn't stop me from trying everything I like. Not something to say on a forum dedicated to hair, but it grows! If you don't like it you can grow it again.
I've had buzzcuts, black, blue, pink, red and some other colours hair, dreads, coloured dreads, undercut, ... If I get bored or I don't like it after all : I can grow it and do something else :-)

It looks good. I like the whispy look of the grow outs.

I also used to plait it to the back then keep it under a bandana to keep it out of the way when it was short:

Me likes this. Your French braid must have been sweet.

Thanks, Isobibbel! Dangerous though, without to much trouble I had at least 3 items in my basket! Didn't go through check-out yet, needing to save some money. But added the shop to my favourites.
