I could definitely see this turning into a bit of an addiction.

Bought a few combs on eBay. They all arrived today. Simultaneously.

Simultaneously?! It's a sign, haha!
But really, that will probably be me too soon :rolling:

Yeah, my package of Scunci combs had the teeth breaking easily so I called the company and they sent warranty replacements. The French combs came, as well, from a Chinese eBay seller.

All arrived today.

Yep it's a sign.

I'll get through this awkward length, and learn updos, all the while enjoying myself.

It will happen before you know it. I remember thinking my hair grows so slow in the beginning. Benign neglect, and lock away the scissors. You got this!

Also, might I suggest oversized aluminum nails as hairsticks once you can bun. I’ve always thought they made striking masculine hair accessories. Might have to file them smooth.

These are just plastic. Dark brown and tortoiseshell.

I tend to prefer organics like wood, antler, and bamboo when choosing beard beads, which is like the guy version of hair toys...but that sounds amazing. Gonna have to try it.

Best of luck to you! Besides a basic bun, I don't know how to do any updos yet either

There's the latest purchase thread where you can show off your latest purchases. Maybe for next time when you receive something in the mail. ;)

Here's the link!

cjk, I like your French twist!

Feels a little like Christmas, doesn’t it?? I like them! They’re hair accessories without being feminine in your hair :)

Ooh! Do you have a more close-up picture of the back? I can't quite tell what it looks like. To me it looks like you brought hair in from both sides and folded it in on itself to the inside...

You handled this very nicely. I'm impressed, a delicate touch is a rare thing. Nice.

No I don't, but I'll take one.

And that describes a French twist fairly well. Your description is basically correct.

Cjk like your bun and you've got some nice shine going on there.

To me, a french twist is twisted to one side; it looks assymetrical. Yours looks pulled in from both sides, almost like an inside-out bun.

I have insufficient length to have it swept way to one side, but it does comply with your general description. In this case, it's kind of diagonal and I use the curve of the comb to work with my waves. My personal aesthetic prefers symmetry anyway, which makes me position the comb near the center.

My goal is not to duplicate a style, precisely, but to work with my own hair in a way that gives me what I want. Call it whatever you'd like, for the moment it's getting me through an awkward stage without wanting to cut my hair off. And that's a good thing.

Those look great on you, cjk! I really think that more men should enjoy and use hair toys :) You'll gain more lenght to play with in no time, you'll see.

And the French twist look stellar!

Ooh, I like the french twist (that's not at all what it looked like to me in the further-away picture). I like how it points more toward the bottom; it doesn't look assymetrical that way.

I love that philosophy! Great basis for some innovative new hairstyles.

The style you are going with looks great! I love seeing men not only unashamedly grow their hair long, but rock updos and hairtoys if they so wish. Screw preconceived gender "rules" that serve no purpose but to make people self conscious and doubt themselves!

When I get some more length I'll be incorporating braids, definitely. But until I can do it properly I'm holding off.
