The basic description of this style is multiple braids from the same source at nape pined into long loops that hang from nape. I've seen variations on this where one braid is bunned over the ponytail all the braids emerge from.

Run mad as often as you choose but do not faint.

I might be mistaken for Medusa. I'll leave this one for those with thicker hair.

Does anyone have a photo of this? I'm having trouble picturing it.

This is a period correct (I believe) Victorian Hairstyle that lots of re-enactors do, so googling variations of 'victorian braided updo' will get you more tutorials and pictures. :)

Since there's no way that flop monster bun was going to make it through the day I ended up Looping the braids through several more times to create something less fan like but a lot more solid.

D'oh, I did this last week and still haven’t transferred the pics from camera.

This did not go well.
So I forgot to loop the braids OVER and just pinned them UNDER. Looks like I'm trying to smuggle an octopus. I will try again and loop the braids the right way next time. I suspect I'm at an awkward length for this but we'll see.

Oh oh this is one of my favorite hairstyles! For very long hair, this is a great way to show off length without being inconvenient, and it's oh so classy.

The tutorial I first used is here (https://youtu.be/k-nXRHPznfc)- and I have pictures of it when my hair was at knee and then again when it was at ankle. It's really a totally different style with more length, which I think is interesting.

Knee:

Ankle:

And then I also tried the Princess Leia style:

Oh, and this is a great variation for shorter hair (https://locksofelegance.wordpress.com/2013/04/04/late-victorian-triple-braided-tuck/) - since the looped thing only works for MBL or more, I'd think.

Thanks, spirals ;)

Lunnafindel those are all so beautiful and elegant!

Here's my latest attempt. Definitely outside of my usual sweater-and-jeans style but I think it looks better this time.

I'd probably do the loops shorter next time.

I tried to do this but my braid loops were too thin to look good, and then they weren't straight like the picture, they were crooked, all over the place.

Lunnafindel, how did you incorporate the ends of the crown braid in the second picture you posted?
