Hey guys!

TLDR: Will Wella T18 work on the top Gold section of my hair or will I need to bleach?

So let me start out by saying I am not going for platinum hair here, just an all-over ash blonde.

Naturally I am a strawberry blonde. Last year I bleached a couple of times and had platinum hair for awhile but I got tire of the upkeep. I use plenty of Opalex and Coconut oil so have been fortunate to avoid any crazy damage. When I couldn't stand my roots anymore I decided to just do a strawberry blonde all over. Well as you know red fades super fast so I decided to go for an all over cool blonde. I used color oops and then toned using Schwarzkopf Ice Toner.

The results of doing that are pictured - as you can see, the bottom is much cooler because it was lighter from bleaching last year. The top of my grow out is still pretty gold in tone (and really looks yellow/gold in sunlight). Rather than bleach I would like to try just using Wella T18 - but wondering if my Gold is too pronounced for it to help much. Will I have to bleach to get everything to even out into a cool blonde tone?

I also considered using a medium or dark ash blonde all over but am worried that it would come out looking brown.

Anyways, would love your thoughts - and if you read through all of this you get a cookie! :cheer:

PS: Please excuse my incredibly greasy hair in these pics! :eek:https://imgur.com/Fl9FvYB

You can tone without bleaching. You will still need developer, I use a level 10. I would suggest starting at the mid length of your hair, then the roots since the heat from your scalp will develop it faster, and then lightly blend down over the already toned ends last. Also make sure you strand test first.

If it's still not cool toned enough, you can use purple shampoo for 1-2 times a week and then tone again in a few weeks. Purple shampoo can be drying, so only use as needed. Toning is more gentle than bleaching, but it still can be damaging, and I've heard that Wella's toners can be a bit more harsh on the hair.

I toned my hair for the first time last week with Ion's Bright Whites with good results. I strand tested the Spring Blossom, Lavender Moon, and (I think) Platinum Lace. I had planned to mix Spring Blossom with one of the other two, but actually forgot which was Lavender Moon and which was the Platinum Lace after it dried, so I mixed all three.

I've also heard of people mixing a very small amount of purple semi or demi-perm dye in with a clear semi or demi-perm and developer to DIY a toner. Or even mixing a very small amount of purple semi or demi-perm dye in to shampoo or conditioner to DIY purple shampoo or conditioner. I have yet to try either of those options.

Developer is still a bleaching agent (hydrogen peroxide) and will damage the hair, although to a much lesser degree than normal bleach, especially if low volume is being used.

I don't think T18 will do much for your hair, I don't think your hair is light enough for that one.

I guess what I mean is you can tone without lifting. When I tone with level 10, it doesn't lift or lighten the color. It only deposits.

You can tone without bleach. Toners deposit color, it will eventually fade and you will need to tone again.
Your hair is light enough for T18, my hair was 1 level darker than yours and it turned a nice blonde but it still wont be as white blonde as your tips.
Toner will just cancel out the orange, so itll look less, orange but it will still be a bit darker.
