My cousin is getting married tomorrow and I still haven’t figured out what to do with my hair to go to his wedding. I’m going to see a lot of family I haven’t seen in years and I’m suddenly terrified that I’m not going to look my best. In particular, many of them have not seen me since I started growing my hair (now hip length, last big family event was when I was at shoulder length) and they’ve definitely never seen my hair since I stopped dying it and let the silver show through (1 year 5 months ago, about a third is grey for the first 6 inches), and I expect a few negative reactions to this in particular.

I don’t have a fringe (bangs) and prefer to side part and have a little bit of volume around the face. My hair is fine and 2a/2b wavy. It’s also hot and humid where I live and there will be no air conditioning at the venue (no idea why, but definitely can’t just leave it down, would melt in a puddle!)

So... what would you do? Any suggestions for fabulous hairstyles to help give me a confidence boost?

A crownbraid if you're good with braiding. Otherwise I would've gone with a bun.

Tri-coil bun could be nice! I think it's called also a off-center cinnabun.

Yes, a bun, any bun will do. I would throw it up in a LWB, but then... I always wear that bun.

And don't try and worry about your relatives and people you might meet again after a long time. I'm sure they will be more happy to see you, and those that dare comment, just tell them you're growing back in your wild hairs. ;)

I would do a braid in the front-- a headband braid or lace braid or rope twists. That will let you part on the side and add a little volume and soften the front. And then yeah, a bun. :)

I went to a bunch of weddings this summer and was really happy with how I ended up doing my hair. Here's a picture of the back (instagram link (https://www.instagram.com/p/BVFjtenBCd2/) I couldn't find a good picture of the front on my phone, so you'll have to imagine :)

I parted my hair on the side (like normal) and loosely twisted like the front two inches, then secured them with a little clear elastic (which ended up under the bun). I think securing helped the twists stay while letting me fluff them out more than usual. I left my face framing/wispy pieces out of these twists, but I think either way would look good. Then I took the rest of my hair and did an L-finity bun. I think this bun has a really classic chignon look (especially if you smooth out the loop across the top). Add some pretty sticks and voila. Even if you didn't have sparkly sticks I think you could use something more neutral then add in a decorative clip somewhere.

Put a word on it. Do you want fancy, sleek, striking, or what? And what does your dress look like?

Standard wedding updos include braids and buns with or without hair toys. I think a cinna bun or an infinity bun would look beautiful. I also have a particular fondness for a French twist, maybe punctuated with a beautiful and delicate comb.

Your length gives you so many options.

That's a beautiful, soft, look. Perfect for a wedding.

Thanks everyone, both for your ideas and your support! Just finished putting it up, and I went with hobbitlocks’ suggestion of soft twists around the face, but then did Gibson braids for the back.

Oh, that is just gorgeous. You could have been in the wedding party with hair like that. If anyone had anything negative to say then it says more about them than you (some people are just like that and who can know why they do it).
