Do I have enough length to identify type? I'm thoroughly confused...not even certain if I'm wavy or curly at this point.

It definitely looks like there's some waviness in there, but it might be kind of hard to tell until you have more length - at your length my (2a/2b) hair would be super curly, but loses a lot of the curl as it grows and weighs itself down. Your hair might get curlier for the next few inches and then straighten out, or continue to get wavier as it grows. Either way, you have some great thickness and I love the golden/honey highlights.

*meant to say 2b/2c...but it is going more towards 2a as it grows!

Did you comb your hair? it looks like its curly hair imo.

My hair is very coarse, so fairly stubborn. But I've never grown it long before, and I have no ide what to expect. Weighed down makes sense, time will tell.

My beard has the texture of copper wire and has straightened with length. Still curly, but nothing near the puff ball it was when shorter.

Ran a comb through it but not in a way that would have tamed it. If anything it fluffed up.

It is way too short to tell; judging from the top I'd say it is in the 1s, and the bottom might just be from wrapping it up. Is it a hairtyping picture according to the rules?

Wet in the shower and towel dried, left natural. Day after. It pretty much always looks like that.

Rules? I wasn't aware there were rules...are they in the hair type help sticky thread? I'll go look. I'm probably close, but missed some detail.

>How do I find out my hair type?

>Wash your hair as you usually do. You do not need to use other products, clarify or change your regular routine. The hair type which really matters is the one you are dealing with day to day and not so much the one you could have if you just clarified. Of course your true natural hair type will come out most when your hair is absolutely clean from all product leftovers and it's also neat to know how much different routines alter ones hair type, but clarifying is not a necessary requirement to type your hair.

>Let your hair air dry with the least amount of detangling you can manage to do. Detangling before washing and while your hair is still wet is totally fine, just avoid doing it (as much as reasonably possible) during the time it is air drying. Finger combing, combing and brushing during that time will change the structure of your hair you are just trying to discover. Not all hair types can manage to dry totally untouched, still it's best to keep it to a minimum to avoid changing the results.

Okay, pretty close. I rinsed, not washed. And I did comb but only a little to clean it up. It's nearly natural, pretty close to the requirements.

Fresh out of the shower, freshly towel dried and uncombed or styled.

Several hours later, fully dry. Still untouched, except for sweeping the bangs out of my eyes. Repeatedly.

I think your underlayer hair is going to end up being much curlier than your canopy hair. Its hard to tell but I'm going to guess 2a/2b ish for the canopy and 2c/3a at least for the underlayer.

I look forward to another typing picture a year from now.

Well this is the time when I need to learn to care for curls, early on, as I've always had short hair previously and no one I know has well maintained curly hair.

Any suggestions?

I don't shampoo it. Water only, about twice a week. Been that way since January 2017. It's not tangled so, I doubt I need a de-tangler at this point.

No idea how to care for it.

Look into the curly girl method. Skip the washing routine and replace with your own, but the rest is quite applicable. No dry brushing etc. Those kinds of things.

Seconding giving the Curly Girl method a try. Your hair might be curlier than you think and that's a good place to start. You can change things out as you learn your hair's needs.

Still betting on 2c :P Very common for this hair type to have a straighter canopy/front.

Yes, of course the WO might have something to do with it too. For a good hairtyping picture, it is recommended to wash & condition with shampoo & conditioner (once) just to get the pictures.

WO might have flattened out the top, or made wavier the bottom - we don't know that. Only length will probably tell, and I'm talking at least twice the length you have now.

That makes the math easy. This is one years growth, from shaved.

Twice this length, assuming a constant growth rate, will be achieved by New Years.

I'm actually excited to do this. Long hair is new to me.

You have great hair, so you made a good decision by growing it out :)
