Medieval Braid Updo - How!?

I am dying to do something like this.. I've searched all over the net and can't seem to find any Instructions, though. I would appreciate any help on how to achieve something like these examples!

Those look like they are done with fake braids.
You can always do a crownbraid or faux crownbraid.

Yikes! Sorry about the thread. I just noticed the Crown Braid thread a few posts down, I just didn't know the term for the style yet. :)

Yep. Them's fake crown braids, or heidi braids. A good friend of mine wears them to work every day. It's just a braid, wrapped over the head, and held in place with pins. She uses little claw clippies. However, it takes a lot of hair. (Which is probably why those celebs have fake braids.) My friend's hair is to her knees. Mine's at waist, and I can't do this one yet.

They're Heidi braids. You basically a braid on each side of your head, cross them over at the top of your head, and secure them with pins. I was barely able to do this when I had BSL-length hair.

Erin - not only are those NOT real (fake hair), but they're also NOT medieval, either!! lol

They're fantasy, only just barely reminiscent of renaissance hairdos... but not even real Ren ladies wore them quite like that, either. ;)


But have at it; Have your fun!
Buy fake plait(s) (braids) of hair in a color that matches yours and use them with bobby or other kinds of hair pins.
Buy fake lengths of hair in a color that matches yours and braid tightly yourself, and do the above.


BTW - it was PLENTY "period" for medieval ladies, and ladies both before AND after the Middle Ages, to use fake hair to augment, just as women today do!
They did it, too, just as we do... and for exactly the same reasons. It's merely human to want to have the biggest, fattest, best, most abundant, most gorgeous, fanciest, shiniest, reddest, darkest, lightest, glossiest, softest, strongest, whatever-est hair around. Human nature hasn't changed one iota! lol

We always called that the Rosa Parks 'do.
Then Mary J Blige started sporting it a few years back and we saw Rosa every where!:)

Yikes.. Yeah, i'm a bit of a tard when it comes to styling my hair. I've always been so caught up on just growing and taking care of it, that I never focused on the styles I could do with longer hair. I can't wait to try this out! Thanks for the info and link!
