I was wondering how you beautiful ladies had your hair on your wedding day (or any other special day!).

I have booked and confirmed my wedding for October, and upon getting into contact with a hair syptylist local to my venue, she has asked what sort of thing I would like to have done... and I have no clue what to tell her, in all honesty, I wear my hair down all lf the time so I am tempted by an up-do, but I have no idea what sort of thing I should do especially as I have been growing my hair longer for this very reason so maybe I should showcase it?

i thought I would ask for inspiration from you knowledgeable folks! :)

On special occasions, like prom or friends' wedding, I usually wore (when I had APL to MBL hair) half-ups - it shows all your hair (and visually adds length, that's always cool) and doesn't get into your face (I think it is great for kissing, you know:o) Congratulations to you!

I wore mine down, but I also got married at the courthouse in jeans. :o

We're talking about getting belated pro pictures taken and I think I'm going to wear it down in braid waves with a flower crown. In that vein, maybe you could wear it down (or in a half-up) to show the length, but have a fancy accessory? Or heatless curls?

Congratulations, by the way!

Thanks everyone! So excited, we are eloping whilst we take our first trip the the USA, Disneyworld! So excited!

I really like the half up and curly idea! Although I am not brave enough to try soup cans! I might see if I can find a sparkly accessory of some description. :D

I had shoulder length at the time. I wore a half up with the top studded with pearls.

I mean, obviously do what makes you feel happy and gorgeous, but to me the hairstyle kind of depends on the style of the dress.

Congratulations!

If you're going to wear something really intricate, I'd go for an updo. If you're going to choose something simpler, though, I think a half-up is the way to go. It also depends on the neckline, if you want something deeper cut, you can go either way, and the other way around - I think the best you can choose is an updo.

When you have the dress, just choose what seems best!

I wanna wear a 50s tea-length dress for my wedding and do a mermaid braid or a really elegant low bun . Have no clues if they go well together but I love the idea haha. Congratulations !

ShilvaA What did you choose for your wedding in the end? I don't know if you've been back to post again. I'm getting married this year - another UK LHC-er getting married in the USA - our wedding will be in Las Vegas. ;)

Thanks, I've got some similar saved on pinterest. My hair is difficult to curl, (whenever I've done it myself) so would have to see if it would work.

Yeah, I don't think I could create that style myself so if it was me I'd consult a hairdresser, make test up do's etc.

Congratulations! The dress will be gorgeous I’m sure :) Are you going to have a hat or a veil, or neither? One of those 50s half hat things came to mind, I don’t know what they’re called? They’re sort of crescent shaped go roughly from ear to ear and they remind me of Swan Lake! Your hair could be quite simple then because the hat would set it off.

They fit the bill then :) Birdcage veils are so lovely.

Vintage styles are annoying with straight hair aren’t they. Mine will curl if I do a wet set but the brush out isn’t hair friendly. I don’t know how to get those Veronica Lake/Bettie Page style waves. Have you got the Lauren Rennells book about vintage hairstyles because I think there’s a section in there for that style, or something similar. Let me know if you haven’t got the book because I can have a look in mine.

Bernie Dexter has straight hair, it might be worth seeing if she’s ever done a wedding shoot, or got married!

Thanks, I've got the first Lauren Rennells book - I think there is a Veronica Lake style in there. I should have some salon credit with the wedding package so I hope their stylist is capable of vintage styles. I'll have to ask next time I email.

I think it’s worth bearing in mind how beautiful your hair is anyway without any different styling or adornment. A birdcage veil and huge rockabilly style flower would look amazing. The day should be as enjoyable as possible, and simplicity rules sometimes :)

I wore my knee-length hair down with not very successful sock curls (my hair insists on being straight). Barely waves on the ends by the time the brief ceremony was over, but all down made for some nice pictures. Side parting and an antique pewter cloisonne hair clasp.

We’re doing a tiny wedding in Las Vegas. My look is pretty vintage most of the time so I’ll be doing it wedding day as well. I e found someone who specializes in vintage hair and makeup to go with my vintage style dress. I’m going to wet set with pin curls the night before and the stylist will work with my set and touch up with heat only as needed. Then I’m planning to do the gorgeous Veronica lake look from the 40s with one side pinned back with a nice pearl hair clip.

As for an accessory I would check out Lilla Rose the headbands flexis or even Upins would look great for what ever you choose

Aww fab, I can do a few vintage hair styles but not enough for wedding hair. Mine doesn't like to curl but I do like the Hollywood waves/veronica lake type look if I don't do an updo :)

I’m glad to read this thread. I’m wondering how to have my hair done for our sons wedding January 19. I booked my hair to be done professionally onsite with the hairdresser my DIL to be is having hers done with. My hair is SL and curly. At least I learned to say little or no heat, and no back combing. That would ruin my curls! Any words of wisdom from anyone would be appreciated.

Absolutely in love with how the lovely lady did my hair and how well it held up in the Florida heat.

I'll need to think about this soon as well. I'm leaning toward a half up. Maybe with some kind of flower crown (Etsy and Pinterest are major inspos). Not too sure what style dress atm but mom wants to help sew it. It'll be on the simpler side but I haven't chosen anything yet.
