So I bought some shears from Sallys awhile back, they were oster brand. I think they were about 14$.

I do eventually want to get better shears because I dont think these are the best.
What are brands that I should be looking for?
Is there a certain metal or type that I should look for as well?
Is there a website I should be checking? Can I trust the shears on amazon?

Im thinking of getting some from sallys again but I dont want to spend 50$ on shears that I know nothing about.
Parents gave me 100$ for Christmas so I think i'm ready to finally spend big money on a good pair.

Look for Japanese steel ones, but don't find them on ebay (fake as heck).

I think the minimum to spend is about 50, for decent ones. But you're right you would have to know what you're buying. My shears are "Ultron" but that is a EU brand.

Maybe someone from the US will know a good pro brand that is not too expensive. But I would not spend less than 50 dollars if you want good ones.

These are nice. I have a similar pair and would purchase again. I used them through my apprenticeship for two years and I use them at home. Honestly, I like them as well or possibly better than a very expensive pair that I have.

Im totally ok with spending 50$ -- i just dont want to spend that amount on a pair of shears from a brand i know nothing about is what I meant.

Very happy with my Kenchii Alfa, glass smooth with opposed blades (rather than blade and anvil)

Yeah, I don't get why they slipped my mind this time! I recommended them before too.

Yeah, if I could those would be my next pair. But it's better for me to order inside the EU, customs and everything, and around that price, for sure I would have to pay that!

Yes it would be expensive.

I bought this yesterday since sallys was having a sale anyway. I'll see if they're sharp enough for me if not i'll get those other ones from this thread.

Quick question, and I'm curious, do they have the brand "Ultron" in Portugal? Seems like they are a 50 euro priced pro-shear (Japanese steel) for people who want to start with haircutting. They have shears around 10 euro too (no Japanese steel), but I purposely didn't get those, as I wanted mine to last quite a few years and drugstore ones around that price were useless.

I got mine here (prices are without VAT):

I have these and have been very happy with them! I've used them on myself for microtrims and S&D and also on all four of my sisters for big chops (they are ii/iii and iiis) and they worked a charm. My first pair came without the case but when I contacted them about it they sent me a totally new case + scissor, so I've got a backup pair now.

I’ll have to consider purchasing these then, since multiple users seem to like them.

I love these for S&D and microtrimming, and they're currently on clearance: http://www.sallybeauty.com/ombre-precise-shear/SBS-525047,default,pd.html

Ooooh, I’ll think about these since they seem to be originally pretty expensive.
Is Sally’s running a sale in store?

Nevermind, I’m buying these! They’re doing an additional 50% off clearance.
So they’ll be like 20$ at the end of the day. Wow!

Yay! I hope you like them. They're my first nice pair and it makes such a difference in trims. I used to think I was terrible at self-trimming, but with these my hemline is more precise than with my last two salon trims.
Also, they're pretty :D

Ok! I didn’t even see that!! Now I’m really glad I got them. Sally’s has a pack of hair sticks, so combined with the shears it came out to 27$ so I got free shipping :)
