I'm going to our local Scottish Highland Games this weekend and trying to decide what to do with my hair. A cute style that goes with the theme of the event would be nice. My hair is mid-back and somewhat thick but fine textured. It's also brunette but dyed dark blue at the moment. Suggestions? :)

Two of the images here (http://www.carolynemerick.com/archivistscorner/traditional-clothing-of-scottish-women) seem to show either very loose braided pigtails, or just low-tied pigtails. There are also a couple bun styles that I can't quite make heads or tails of.

Sadly that, and "down and flowing" were the only things I could find. I'd presume that braided buns wouldn't be out of place, though.

Maybe a modified Elling woman hairstyle (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=14032&page=37&p=2807375&viewfull=1#post2807375)? It's not Scottish, really, but it does have a feeling of antiquity. :D Many folks on that thread chose to bun up, but you can also leave the end of the braid hanging loose (http://www.tollundman.dk/gifs/DIAS18.jpg) after tucking it through.

A dutch braided top knot in a half up would look so cool with colors and such!!!!!!!
