I am a newly married women and i have pretty long hair :). I would like to wear my hair in a neat braided bun. But i dont know the exact way of doing it... Can any one teach me how to do it and i like to see how a good braided bun looks like... One of my friend said it is a good hair style for the elegant evening homely look....

If you can make a braid, you can make a braided bun. It's quite easy.

Make a single braid at the back of your head, but not low at the nape--make it higher up. Then you just slowly coil the braid flat against the head. Continue coiling until you get to the end of your braid. Tuck the braid end under and secure the bun with hairsticks, clips, or hairpins.

There are photos of braided buns made the way I described in my photo album (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/album.php?u=7535).

I'm not the best with describing how-to's with words, but I hope that helped. :flowers:

I can't get a braided bun to work unless I put my hair in a pony-tail first and then start braiding. It also works better for me if I make two braids and wrap them both around the pony-tail (I think I wrap them in separate directions). I have a picture of a braided bun in my profile if you want to see what mine looks like. Experiment and see what works for you. Once you've mastered that, do the same thing with a rope-braid for a variation :)

And contratulations on being newly married!

I need to pick up some tips, too. I can do the bun all right, but then I'm not sure how to secure it. Amish pins just fall out. Sticks don't feel secure either. I guess my hair doesn't stop being slippery when braided. :) I can use a Ficcare superclip but the point of a braided bun is to show the pattern, eh? So blocking it with a Ficcare doesn't seem the best idea.

I always make a single braid, low, or a bit higher up, doesn't matter.
Slide a hairstick above where the braid starts.
Then take the braid and wrap it around the stick so the braid lays against your head (under the stick).
The tassle (left a bit longer than with a usual braid) wrap a bit tighter so it slides under the rest of the wrapped braid, et voila, you're done :-)
It helps a lot when you do this with damp or wet hair...stays like rock all day then in my slippery escapy hair.
It should hold without pinning depending on your braidlength.
But you can always use some extra bobbypins to secure.

Using sticks (the diagonal one is only for decoration)

Or roll the braid and seure with a Ficcare

Oh I found another one,
Its made with 4 braids, wrapped in circles, one around the other, not too tight like with a beehive.
Secure with (a LOT of) bobbypins (they work better for me than amish type pins) or mini clawclips, whatever works best for you.
The leave the 4 tassles hanging out :-)

You said 'eh'! Canadian, eh? (sorry, suffering from lack of sleep..)

Anyway, try doing it on damp hair, I find updos tend to work best this way (coming from someone with slippery, thick, short hair that doesn't want to do anything).
