Hi!

I’m trying to figure out what level my hair color is so I can properly match it and just let my hair grow out. This is a picture in direct sunlight from about a year ago when it had grown out a significant amount: https://m.imgur.com/d5Xrobt

I think it’s close to this model’s hair color: https://imgur.com/a/0kwVI

I went to a hair dresser a few months ago who tried to match it and they said it’s about a level 7A then another said it’d be a level 6G so I don’t know .. when they matched it, it was darker for about a week and then faded a lot to a really light blonde color. My hair is now darker again at the roots. If anyone knows what dye would match my natural or what level it is considered, it’d mean a lot :)

I see 7a. I'm a 6a which is pretty close! You might want to use a level 5 or 6 again and it'll fade again but it'll work. I'd have to see your hair to know exactly what would be best to use.

From levels 1-10? I'd say 7.5 or 8. Your hair is way too blonde to be 6, as 6 is usually the lightest brown. My hair is around 6 or 6.5.

About matching growth and length: dye is usually darker for a week or two and then it starts to fade.

Depending which company's hair swatches they are using, your level will vary. I'd say you're way too light for a 6, I know I'm a 7 and my hair is darker then yours. I'd say you're much closer to an 8!

And I'm totally feeling hair envy over here! such beautiful natural blonde! :agape:

Aww thank you!! :) Your hair looks so beautiful in your picture!! I thought I’d be something around a level 7 for sure but I thought it’s more light brown than blonde actually .. I think light brown is a level 6? I found more pictures of when I had it grown out quite a bit and when I tried to match it. Here’s a picture of my roots grown out where the rest of my lengths was pretty light - around a level 9 (?) I think: https://m.imgur.com/cApDoN6

Here’s when I tried to match it and I used Revlon’s Colorsilk in Dark Blonde/61 just on the ends - within a week it was super light at the ends again: https://m.imgur.com/MEsJ1wD

This is what my hair looked like about a week ago but it’s getting more reddish and lighter blonde at the ends lol so I actually thought about using a level 6 or something: https://imgur.com/a/uC6a3

I want to match it myself to whatever my natural hair color is (so I can just let it grow out and it’ll match) and I assumed it’s light brown/very dark blonde but maybe not .. If you guys have any suggestions on what brand to use and what level to go for, that’d be awesome :) I guess if it’s between a 7 and an 8 instead of a 6, it’d be a 7.5?

That looks like a light blonde. Maybe mid-blonde. Depends on the lighting.

Why don't you just let it grow out? :flower:

I'm with Lapushka - let it grow. It looks like an ombre.

It’s no longer blonde so it wouldn’t really be an ombre :D The hair dresser I went to dyed it a level 6G so my roots first seemed to match but they’ve gotten lighter and my ends are like a reddish brown now. The last picture is what it looked like about a week ago but just imagine the ends to be more red now

If you click on my most recent post and the last picture, you can see what it looks like now :) My hair is a lot shorter and darker. I tried to have someone match it and they were torn between using a level 7A or 6G but they dyed it a level 6G.

I'm with Lapushka and Spidermom--I'd just let it grow out and rock the ombre look.

Years ago, I stopped dying my hair dark auburn and just let it grow out--my natural hair color is a dark ash blonde/light ash brown (go blonette!), and I just let the dark auburn oxidize and fade...I was rockin' the ombre well before ombre was a thing (call me a trendsetter :p ). Funniest part--many people thought I had my hair cut and dyed! It wasn't until my hair was all virgin again before my Mom decided yes, my hair naturally IS that "dark" color! :agape:

After letting it grow out for a couple or three years, I had the dyed hair cut off and wore layers until it got longer (another couple or three years) and started evening it up.

Hmm. My roots are lighter now and my ends are darker so for me it just looks pretty awkward right now .. 😅

It did for me, too, Biene. In my case, as time went on, the dark auburn oxidized to blonde. It looked awkward for a few months, but the stronger sun here in FL helped bleach out the darker color rather quickly.

Maybe you can find some ideas in the "Giving up the dye/bleach and going natural" thread: http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=51155

Oh okay! Awesome :) I thought you said your natural hair color was darker but thank you!! It’d be still useful to know what level my natural color is because even the salon I went to was confused 😅 Would it be considered dark blonde like a level 7 or light brown like a level 6?

I'm with Lapushka - let it grow. It looks like an ombre.

Can I third this? Grow grow grow, please!?

Level 7 or 8 perhaps? :) It's hard to judge in that light...

Your hair is quite short yet. Just let the dye grow out. I honestly can't tell a difference when looking at the pictures, though I'm sure it's more noticeable IRL. I don't think the average person cares what a random stranger does with their hair so go for it!

I would say the level of your natural hair color is a level 9 or 10.

I'd say between a 7 and 8, maybe closer to the 8 but its hard to tell from a photo, you could go to a beauty supply store and get a colour chart out (they should just have them there near the colours, if not just ask) and match your natural regrowth to the swatches.

I think it's between level 7 and 8. Keep in mind that if your hair has been bleached it's most likely a little (or a lot haha) poreous. So it will look darker at first and fade fast. I think the only thing to do about that is color it with a semi, wait until I fades, and then redye (not the roots) when it's gotten too light for your liking. I'd also pick a color a bit cooler than you think you need. Like if your natural hair color is neutral, I'd go for ash since faded color seems to look a lot warmer than in the beginning. I don't think you need to dye it though, I think the contrast is ok and it's very hard to match natural blonde hair with chemical dye anyways
