Hi everybody!

My fraternal twin is getting married and I'm a guest at her wedding - not in the bridal party, so no rules for hair or dress :)

I'd like to show off my hair length, which is at waist now, but not have it fall in my face. This leads me to think maybe some kind of half-up style? I don't know. I don't want to have it pulled back and look severe, you know? I've done some googling and can't really find anything I like so far (though I just started looking).
So I ask my lovely LHC community: do you have pictures of ideas you'd like to share? I'll at least get some really good ideas!

My twin will probably go to a hairdresser on her big day, but I may or may not be with her, so I plan to have a style I can do myself if needed, and I can always have a more intricate or time-consuming option to upgrade to if someone else can do my hair.

Here is sort of a picture of me- brown hair, kind of straight but with a wave to it I guess, a little more near the ends.

Show me pretty hair please! <3

A half up style with curls in it is very pretty! How you'd get the curls you'd have to see. I don't know whether you're prepared to use heat or not.

I always tend to link this tutorial. I love it so much, and it makes for pretty waves!

There's a thread for tolkienesque (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=54335) styles that would probably be super stunning. Or check out SwordWomanRiona's (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/member.php?u=33844) albums, because her hairstyles are gorgeous and she's got a bunch of cool half-ups!

I really love the French braid half up here: https://youtu.be/OsmhDWJGnvI (starts about 2 minutes in). It doesn't take long to do and it looks super nice! And you can use bobby pins or clips to decorate the hair more if you wish.

If I were you I wouldn't mess with heatless curls or anything, one time use of a curling iron won't ruin your hair (but I recommend an iron with a big barrel, and use the lowest temperature setting).

I second the half-up idea. I did that for my wedding and it worked great! (there's a thread here somewhere from a couple years ago...) It's very simple and basically looked like this: https://youtu.be/afI-QwEugxc (except you don't have to do all that curling - start at 2:48) Lace braids are always a good idea in my opinion.

But, if you want another option, you could do the sideswept half-french braid thing (http://www.prettydesigns.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/Gorgeous-Side-swept-Hairstyle.jpg) Again, it's really easy: just start a diagonal french braid and stop at your shoulder, put a hairtie and maybe some flowers in, and you're golden. :)

Those are my ideas. Can't wait to see what you come up with!

Thanks everyone! I'm technically challenged trying to use my phone but I'll take a better look at these suggestions when i get home to my computer!

I second the sideswept french braid thing. I love that style and almost always use it for any gigs or plays I sing at. It holds up all night through any dancing or other assorted choreography I've ever had to do and stays looking just as pretty at the end of the night as when you start. I also find that with this style I get fewer tangles than when I go for a half-up or similar hair style. It keeps the length more "together" I guess and prevents tangling. And it looks nice on both straight and curly hair. Congratulations to your sister and have fun choosing a style! :)

UGH, I have GOT to do something about this sideburn hair. I get to commute to work in my Beetle again and I love having the windows down, but the hairs in front of my ears are driving me nuts! They blow forward into my eyes constantly. I think I'm going to rip them out. They never grow anyway and are forever sticking out sideways.

Regarding wedding stuff- I love the idea of the big bohemian braids, but I'm not sure my hair could pull off that kind of volume?
My shoes remind me of gladiators, so that put me in mind of the movie "300", which has Queen Gorgo with nifty hair in it. Maybe I could do that twisty half-up style without it looking severe in the front? I can't quite get a good photo of her though. There are tutorials online but they all seem to be videos only. I'm on data limit so no videos for me...

Edit: Oops. Ok so, sideburn trim went beautifully... on the right side. I messed up my left with the 1st cut of scissors. We have a personal trimmer for my husband which would have been perfect...
but it's lost mid-move somewhere in Georgia house still (we're in FL). So I was like "oh I can be careful with scissors!" Well I can't. Not having to take off my glasses, I can't. So, the sideburns have been epilated bare.
It looks odd right now and my husband MAY notice? I figure I have a month and if they grow back anything like the rest of my epilated hair, I'll be fine. Meanwhile, I am TOTALLY going to enjoy my opened-up Beetle on the commute!

Ha. Absolutely no one noticed my sudden lack of sideburn wispies. For sure, my husband would have said something if it was weird. I think everyone who says the look is odd, is just used to seeing themselves with hair there and thus the lack is off-putting, perhaps there is a slight tanline, or maybe they just haven't gone and looked at other women lately. Being self-conscious, I was looking at all the girls and ladies I saw at work, and a surprising number of them don't seem to have sideburns. Anyway.

Twin sent me a picture of her hair! She did like a trial/dress rehearsal deal and picked a style. It's VERY similar to the photo that posted above- the half-up, except her hair isn't in a nice twist, it is just port of pinned back. It looks a bit messy to me, but the presence of a veil may make it completely different.

Now the question- that would be similar to what I was thinking of anyway. Copy the hairstyle, or go for something different? I'll see if I can get the picture up here of the back so you can see.
