Has anyone tried mixing henna with a deposit only dye?

I'm thinking of adding some cherry red/ fuchsia to henna right before applying it, to make it a cooler tone.
However, I have no idea if it is safe to leave a deposit only dye for 3-4 hours, and I also have no idea how it would turn out, or whether the cool tone would stick longer.
If I decide to try it, I will do a strand test first.

I haven't, but I think Hypnotica might do it that way. Or she might apply the deposit-only dye after henna, I'm not quite certain. It should be safe enough to leave it on that long, though -- there's a tendency to leave deposit-only dyes on for as long as you can stand, for deeper and more lasting color.

I used to use deposit-only (Adore) dyes over my henna all the time to cool it down and cover it up to a dark brown. I would leave it on for half an hour to an hour or so (if diluted) but that was only because I didn't want the colour too dark.

I've popped Manic Panic and Adore over my henna a few times. Never combined in the same process, though.

Adore Black on the underlayer (They have 3 "blacks". I can't remember which one this is.)

Manic Panic Vampire Red on the ends.

ETA: I usually leave the veggie dyes on about an hour. :)

I have absolutely no input except to say please let us know your results using this method, I think its a brilliant idea. :blossom:

I use deposit dyes over my henndigo and always leave them in for 3-4 hours if that helps at all.

I have also used Manic Panic fuchsia (or something like that -the colour was a dark pink) over my dark hennaed hair in the past. It turned out a nice dark purple on my hair, which faded into a more reddish glow (as opposed to the orangey glow I had only with henna). It also stayed more on my hennaed hair than my roots.

I was wondering about mixing them in the same process, but i don't think I will do that anytime soon, as I just did a full hair henna application, and I'm not up for doing it again haha!

Browneyedsusan, I love how the Vampire Red looks on your ends!

I recently used Directions over Henn-digo: pics are in the Manic Panic & Henna thread (I'm on my phone on holiday so can't post pics directly).

I've never put deposit-only color on my hair since I've started using hendigo (4-5 months ago), but I think it can be definitely done !
I wouldn't do it in the same process though simply because I think it's better to decide what shade you want to apply to hennaed hair after you see what color/hue comes out, since that may vary (sometimes is more reddish, sometimes more coppery, etc.)
