I went to Toni &a Guy yesterday to get the first haircut since I've been growing it for a year and a half. Unfortunately I don't have any recent photos of my hair before I got my cut but here are some from like 3 months ago (hair type test) that I posted here:

Before a shower:

After shower:

As you can see, it was like 3a. My hair actually got even thicker and crazier in the last 3 months. The frizz was getting out of control and it felt incredibly dry.

This is it after the appointment yesterday:

Now The lady said that my hair was incredibly dry, thick and frizzy and that she wanted to do a treatment on it. The treatment was done during the shampoo and condition process so I didn't see it. After that she put in a leave in conditioner before blow drying and some serum which contains Argan oil before straightening. How on earth did they make it like this? I'm wondering if something like this would do long term harm? I don't really like how it looks when it's this straight. Before she started to straighten it which was after she used the hairdryer, it looked the best because it was still straight but it looked more natural and had a bit more volume.

I'm guessing after continuous washes, it will go back to how it was? I kinda like how frizzy it was even though it was annoying at times.

I never use to use leave in conditioners or any type of oil for that matter which is probably why my hair Was he way it was. I guess I will use the leave in conditioner and serum that I got from them but I don't think I'm going to straighten my hair ever. Doesn't look good on me.

I don't know how she got it straight, see what it does when you next wash it. Your waves are lovely! :)

If the curls are looser than before then the flat iron was too hot. Or does it stay straight even after washing? Then she likely applied some sort of relaxer to your hair...

Your natural waves are very pretty :flower:

Just realised that my question was a bit silly. Yeah I am gonna see how it looks after I wash it. I have never user a hair straightener before so to see what one can do to my hair is crazy. I always thought nothing could tame my hair. I'm probably not going to use one again though because it looks too straight for my liking. I will continue to use the products hey gave me though :)

I sure hope she didn't give you a keratin treatment.

Big lesson to learn, if stylists say, "I want to do this or that," then just say, "no thank you. I came in for this or that, and that is *all* you're going to do."

It would be a shame if those pretty wurls are gone.

I will keep that in mind :). I managed to find what they used in my hair. Actually said it on the receipt lol. It was this:

Says it's meant for very damaged hair. Not really sure if this stuff is bad for hair.

you hair looks like relaxed to me sorry :)
what lapushka said about keratin treatment... why does keratin formula comes in my mind as reading it on shampoos, conditioners and hair masks?

Darn it! I was going to ask you about a receipt, but I'd already posted. :)

At first sight it seems to be a regular deep conditioner... :hmm:

I'm not sure either. Maybe we have members here that are more familiar with the product.

Maybe when you wash your hair again, it will be all too clear if it was permanent or not. When are you due a wash, because it would be a shame to ruin all that straightening, best enjoy it while it lasts if you don't do it often!

Got it done yesterday. Normally wash my hair every 3-4 days so I will probably wash it Sunday. Will probably update in this thread.

You do have pretty waves.
Maybe look at the ingredients in the serum as you say that the combination of straightening and serum removed the natural volume in your hair.
I hope your hair is back to how you like it soon. :flowers:

Yes please do update us! :) I hope it will be just fine. You might have to entice the waves a bit by scrunching after heat styling, but you can easily do that with your leave-in.

I think your hair type looks more like 2C than 3A. I expect that it's natural texture will return when you wash it next time.

If you didn't wash it yet then there's no need to worry. I think they just blow dried it straight. It can be done, I've seen it countless times.

After that she put in a leave in conditioner before blow drying and some serum which contains Argan oil before straightening.

You say they also straightened it. I wouldnt worry about it if you didn't wash it yet. A keratin treatment or such is very expensive, not as cheap as a treatment.

I tend to agree, sounds like its just a combo of a blow out and flat ironing. I probably wouldn't wait for wash day, I would go wet my hair down to bring the curls back. Next time you go in for a trim, make sure you tell the stylist up front that you don't want your hair dried straight or even skip the drying all together.

When I go for a cut, that is all I get. I don't let them wash it or apply any kind of product, no deep conditioning, nothing. They can get it wet but that is all and I leave with it wet. Drives some stylists crazy but oh well, it my hair and they do what I want.

This is no big deal. They just deep conditioned and used serum and flat iron. You can make your hair look like this if you're willing to blow dry and flat iron after you wash your hair. I did it my whole life LOL FYI you will not achieve the same results by only using the products they gave you. I just want you to be prepared. I'm sure there was a ceramic flat iron involved as well, so if you do not drop the hundred bucks on a good ceramic flat iron, you won't get your hair that sleek again. (I love my Chi, the original model.) They added layers also to thin your hair some but it'll also bring out your curls, but at the same time I see your hair is possibly razored (a Toni and Guy fav thing to do.)

For what it's worth I'm a cosmetologist and I know Toni and Guy methods LoL

Can I also add I def loooooove your curls too! Why look like everyone else with straight hair when you can look like a goddess?! Hahaha just my opinion ;)

Yes that was my impression also, spidermom. Wavy with a few ringlets, that is 2c.

Looks like nothing to worry about. With deep conditioning, serum, blow drying & flat ironing, even 4a hair can be made very straight. After a shampoo or two, your natural texture should return. Keep up the deep conditioning, but, just scrunch & air dry.

So I just washed my hair. It has gone back to its normal state. I will say that the change of shampoo and conditioner as well as using a leave in conditioner has made a difference though. Normally after I wash my hair, it usually feels and looks very dry. I used to struggle putting it in a ponytail. That's how dry it was. Now the hanger of products has made it feel much softer. It still doesn't feel or look as soft as a lot of people's hair after that have washed it but I can definitely see an improvement which is always nice. Hopefully continuous use will make my hair better.

I'm glad it's gone back to its natural state; and that is definitely wavy, not curly. Very nice! :)
