Hi everybody!
I'm currently letting my hair grow out, but I sort of am in a phase where I just feel like trimming everything off but I then keep telling myself that if I do that, that phase will eventually come back and I'll be screwed again... =(
I absolutely want my hair to be long but it just looks so awful now!
I want to let it grow past my shoulders, around breast height.. I know I still have a long way to go to reach that length...
I don't mind if I'll look like a girl with it, so give me some advice what hairstyles I should wear once I'll have it long, and also in between.
Here are some pics I took:
http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=142g0m0&... (http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=142g0m0&s=4)
http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=2iu7tkj&... (http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=2iu7tkj&s=4)
http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=208yc1f&... (http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=208yc1f&s=4)

How would you call my hair by the way? It isn't straight, but not wavy either...

See, it looks really crappy... When I had it totally short (http://talk.hairboutique.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=62882#), it looked good. Then, after a while, it started to look crappy again for nearly a month. After that, I had it long enough to just let it hang down and and it would look pretty cool. And now I'm again in that phase, but I can't let it like this for months again...
Sorry for babbling lol.
Thanks a lot ^^ http://talk.hairboutique.com/smileys/smiley4.gif

Awkward phase?

What awkward phase?

I think that your hair is most certainly wavy. You'll see it more and more as it grows, if you actually get around to letting it grow.

Ugh, I am going through the awkward phase right now. I have been through it several times before. It's not fun, you just have to stick with it though, if long hair is what you really want. Good luck!

Welcome! I went through an awkward phase with just my bangs, can't imagine what it's like for the whole head!

Judging from the pics, though, I'd say you might really be a wavy, your hair just hasn't grown enough to see them. :)

I went through the phase, my son went through the phase and many others as well. It's no fun to go through but on myself I just kept it clipped back on the sides as much as possible and for my son we slicked his back while wet with gel until he could low pony tail it. He has course 3b hair so it was very hard to work with. Now he looks like Antonio Bandarez (spelling?). It's just a matter of how you are comfortable getting through the phase. It ends faster than you think. Big hugs, you can do it.

Hey, thanks a lot everyone!
It won't change the fact that it looks awful, but I'll survive that too :cheese:
For the moment, everyone tells me that I should get a haircut, but when I'll have it really long I'll just laugh at them ^^

I've been at that phase. I remember pulling whatever would fit into a stubby ponytail, or low pigtails. I clipped the sides back. You could wear a headband. Sport a beanie. This phase WILL pass. Happy growing!

ah, I remember that phase! Headbands, hairclips and bobby pins is how I got through it - I just pinned the front back away from my face and let the back do whatever it wanted.

I'm stuck in the SECOND awkward phase now, just at collarbone. Long enough to tuck into a ponytail, not long enough for anything else!

LMAF.....too funny.

Seriously...we all go through that "awkward" stage...hang in there you'll get through it too.

Hi there. I'm going through the same phase. I'm just trimming the back so I don't get the mullet look. It's just the top layers which are driving me nuts at the moment. With patience you'll get there.

Your hair looks like mine when I grew it out. It has a lot of body. Mine is wavy. I just didn't cut it until it reached BSL. I'm not sure how I did it. I've blanked that time of my life out. I vaguely remember a lot of clips and I even bought bobby pins!

You look good now. It looks healthy and that wave is nice.

I'm growing out from a pixie cut right now. It's not much longer and already driving me crazy. Plus the back is strange. I almost look like I have a weird bowl cut. It's so far from what I want to look like and how I wish to present myself to others that I am plagued with urges to cut something here or there. Here's what I've been doing lately to help myself get through it:

->It's fall here. I found hats I really enjoy wearing indoors and out. If I have a few, it doesn't look like I'm addicted to the same hat.
->Trying to find ways to make my hair grow faster. Trying scalp oils and scalp massage makes me feel good. Putting efforts towards better care when I have the urge to style it.
->Spending some days with not doing anything to my hair at all. I'm trying to decide if I want bangs or not...which way does my hair fall? Where do my cowlicks go? Which hair grows faster? (I think all on my own I'm growing my own "anime" haircut with my hair growing faster at my temples)
->Admitting to (even showing) my family and friends that I look strange because of my growing hair "project" somehow helps me feel less badly about how it looks. In other words, it may feel strange to do but in the long run it feels better to not try to hide it. I tell them that I'm growing it out and to anyone who tells me I need a haircut I say instead that I need their support to help me keep the scissors put away. If you share your goals and accomplishments with your friends and family they will praise you when you reach them. Like here!

It feels like a long time, but it will pass. Good luck!

Try not to watch your hair grow. Seriously. Work on the condition, feel and start thinking about how you would like it to eventually look overall. Now is a good time to think about bangs/fringe because growing them out at a later point can be a real pain.

I agree with the others. Focus on the condition of your hair and you'll forget about the awkwardness a bit. Believe me, I understand what you are going through. I had this weird wave on one side of my head for the longest time and it drove. me. NUTS. Eventually it grew out enough that it went away. Just give it some time. It's REALLY hard to be patient but it's worth it once you get past the "in between" stage.

There's not much you can do, you must wait for a little while more untill you can tie a tiny ponytail :D
Or, you could wear a headband thingy, many guys wear a simple black metal one, it doesn't look girly and it keeps it out of your face.
Just hang in there, don't cut. :)
