View Full Version : How Long Do You Think...?

Finally got some photos together in an album on here. As some of you probably already know, my hair was butchered this past May. Super short layers everywhere, a-line bob. It's like half my head's length and thickness was cut right out. I know that to guesstimate how long it will take to grow hair from one point to another, you times average rate of 1/2 inch by how many inches needed, but find myself going crazy with worry about it taking forever. I want my hair all one length to at least a little past shoulder (about collarbone), like it was pre-cut. I'm thinking about 8 months to a year, sadly. :( How long do YOU guys think it will take? Ever grow out something like this?
Also, normally my hair is naturally straight, but looks wavy in pictures because of all the flipping going on with the layers. I think this hides some of the growth going on. :(
I appreciate everyone's help! :)

If you mean all of your hair, even the shortest parts, then yes, 8 months sounds like a good estimate. That's nothing. Christmas seems like it was yesterday, and it's already been 6 months. Time flies.

My guess is you should be around bsl in a year. After that with some benign neglect, you'll be at mid back in no time ( or what feels like it at least)

I think bsl in a year is unlikely unless you have an unusually fast growth rate, but I do agree with Midnight Moon that 8 months should probably get you to shoulder, including the majority of your layers.

Aaaah the shoulder flippies. The reason my hair looks like it's barely shoulder even though it's aaaaaalmost collarbone length now (apparently, I just measured it lol). A fun length it is not. I do think you'll get to where you'd like in about 8 months, though! You should measure your hair (from the hairline over your head to the longest layer in the back) when it's all clean and dry, write it down somewhere (you should be able to make a blog post now!), and then measure again in a month! That should give you a really rough growth rate. Measuring monthly will give you a better growth rate, of course, but one month of data is better than none!

Someone at this website did math assuming a 5'7" person and a half inch growth rate:
