I'm gonna have a photo shoot tomorrow and I want to do a faux mohawk, as the title says.

What way is the simplest, what would you suggest? Can you share tutorials?

My hair is thin, ii and around waist. Not too slippery at the moment.

I thought to go a topsy-tail mini "buns" route.

Thank you! :flowers:

What about some sort of pull-through braid?

I just saw this tutorial last night, and thought it was cool :D

Another one, I think this one is better since she she pulls the hair as she goes, whereas the other person waits until the braid is done, and then starts pulling to make it bigger.

Oh. I actually saw a photo of that on pinterest and thought it would be too complicated. Now I think it is simpler than topsy tails.

I have to do a trial run tomorrow... :) thanks for the tutorials!

If you can manage a french fishtail braid with the hair from your front hairline in a straight line back and down your head, especially with dutch accents on the side to flatten them out (it's much much easier than it sounds, and is described in this video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VR8TduTRZjY) though she stops at the crown) or have someone around who can do it on you, it doesn't take much fluffing to make a nice tall fake mohawk effect with it. You could even use some texturizing/volumizing powder or a bit of hairspray through the mohawked section before you start to make it a little hold better with the added texture.

Alternatively, if you have a bun form you're willing to cut into a straight piece or a hair rat that you can use to stuff it this tutorial (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SC6KKaZ2iFQ) offers an even bigger option.

I was thinking a pull through braid too but your suggestions sound really good too Nique. I will check these tutorials out myself.

While really gorgeous, this is not a simple hairstyle! Neither is the pull through braid.

Topsy tails were the simplest, but I didn't do them at the shoot. Instead something spontaneous happened.

It took me 4 takes and a looot of nerves to get the side french braid from the tutorial Nique posted. I didn't have time ir energy to do the other side and it looked kind of cool one sided so I let the rest down.

Oh, well  I think it turned out pretty cool.
