I have been using hair ties all my life everyday and I notice so much breakage, so Im looking for an alternative. BUT, I don't want to use hair sticks (At least not yes) because I frankly like how hair ties work better. So can you tell me about any other things out there I could use? Thanks :joy:

If you want to hold a ponytail:

There's several options! You have the telephone cord hair ties, (http://image.dhgate.com/albu_269379057_00/1.0x0.jpg) soft hair ties (http://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/wxMAAOSwoudW2qAR/s-l300.jpg)in different versions (https://img1.etsystatic.com/010/0/6687074/il_fullxfull.439717747_shzr.jpg),silk or satin scrunchies (http://cdn3.gurl.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/scrunchie.jpg), and some people even make hair ties out of nylon stockings (http://www.nicoleolea.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/Pantyhose-upcycle-53.jpg)! :) And like Aredhel mentioned, flexi-8's can also be used as a ponytail holder.

ETA: You can even use ribbon or scarves to tie around your ponytail (http://68.media.tumblr.com/5de2013dcb16e099ac49e6336a9d3f83/tumblr_n3dnlr7uUc1s1yrvmo1_1280.jpg), You can choose to keep the ends hanging loose or wrap the whole thing around the base of the ponytail.

If it is for buns, you can use claw clips, spin pins, Ficcare-style clips, you can use french combs or hairforks, u-pins/amish pins...

I like hair forks and their smaller invisible cousins, Amish hairpins (which are stiffer than most hairpins and U-shaped, but used just like forks).

Ficcares are great too, if you don't mind spending a bit.

I made some silk scrunchies...they're great in my hair and I was able to use a better elastic inside them. At times I will use a claw style clip to hold a bun if I'm tired of bobby pins or hair sticks. I do use some hair bands especially made for thick hair and say no damage - but I don't use them everyday. They hold my thick hair the best and I never feel them pull or break my hair - at least not that I can tell. Here's a link in case you want to see what they look like: https://www.amazon.com/Scunci-Effortless-No-damage-Elastics-24-Count/dp/B002QA31SU?th=1

To tie off braids? Silk ribbons.

I was just mentioning this in another thread, but I'll add it here. I like to use yarn or ribbon to tie my braids off, but if I want them to stay and not slip out, I have to braid them into the hair itself first. Kind of like with a paranda, but if you're just using it to tie off with it only needs braided into the last inch or so (enough to really get worked into the braid itself). Then wrap the tails around the braid a couple times and tie a bow. It looks good and will hold for days on me, even though my hair is normally very slippery and escapes styles rather quickly.

Well I just make several quick plaits or twists. But you didn't mention your hair type, so I do not know if those would work for you. For my hair type they will stay put without any kind of hair accessory.

I LOVE all of these ideas!!!

I use spin pins and wood hair forks almost exclusively. But these don't work for braids.

Anyone had experience with strips of tee shirt fabric as ties?

I have sewn with teeshirt fabric, and I think that it isn't stretchy enough. You can get hairties made of foldover elastic, or of ribbing. You can use pieces of stocking or of stretchy lycra (like for leotards).

Braided nautilus works fantastic with a hairfork for me!

Hair bobbles - you know the elastics with 2 balls that you wrap around your hair rather than pull your hair through. I find the pulling hair through it what breaks my hair.
