View Full Version : Is there anyone in here who had hair transplant too?

:) I really hope that my question is not blashpemism in a community where we celebrate all type of hairs - though maybe it means that we can celebrate those heads too which had a little hair transplant :)
I was trying to use the search to find a similar topic, but either I'm not good at lhc searching or I started the first topic about it.
About me: I had hair transplant 6 months ago, the recipient site was my forehead where I had naturally high hairline (6-finger forehead). The donor site is same as for men, the back and sides of my head (so altogether I will have the same amount of hairs, but a bit different distribution).
For more natural donor appearance I went for FUE technology, where the donor is not having removed a wide strip of hairy skin but individual hair groups (follicular units, containing 1-4 hairs) are picked from here and there. It meant that I had to shave my head on the back and side, which was a bit of shock for me, given that my goal is having finally as long hair as I'm able to growth in good quality :)
Now I'm starting to see the new growth and really impatient to see the final results and grow my hair long finally (and first time) without bangs! :)
Fellow hair transplanters, please join to me :)

Done. To make sure a mod sees such a request, use the triangle report button at the bottom left of any post and put your request in the text box that appears.

Your surgeon did a really good job! It looks very natural.
I assume he has you on minoxidil so that thinning doesn't leave it looking lonely up there over time?
I had a really LOW forehead as a kid. I thought I just grew out of it. Given what minoxidil is doing, noooope, my hairline was receding for other reasons. Oops.

As far as I know, it will grow long, as it did at the back of my head. Though never seen fully grown female results, so it's just theory. "For some reason" mostly men doing this operation, and they rarely have long hair after they started experiencing the male pattern baldness :/
I will keep my results documented anyhow, would like to see how it's improving over time :)

:) Yes, I think it's great that we are living in an era when we're able to get help in case of really high foreheads making us too self conscious :)
I myself wanted to be born in the medieval times when my forehead was the beauty standard, and wealthy ladies tried to reach it via shaving their heads :D ( like here: https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/564x/f0/af/76/f0af7684b05ccf9d2a379a8e1f655b7d.jpg).
Lapushka: Thank you! :blossom: In real life I told it only to some really good friends, though when someone recognizes it, I'm not avoiding the topic. Most of my friends were not even aware of my problem, I've always had bangs/tricky fringes. Even my mother was really surprised when I explained her why I'd like to have the operation and showed her my forehead :) Which is pretty funny, because I had this 6-finger forehead since ... practically since forever :) It was a real relief for me to finding out that this operation exists, and was pretty annoying not to be able to find good female examples for FUE. I'm thinking about to make a small blog with the results just to give some examples for girls/ladies who are not feeling well with their high foreheads but having no idea how would they look like after an operation :)

Thank you, I think the same about the hairline, I'm happy that he made it a bit "uneven" and not like a drawn line. He's considered to be a very good surgeon on his area as far as I dig it out :)
I'm not using now Minoxidil but were considering it, and already bought the 2% version. I don't need it for the hairline, it was high because I've born with it, but the top of the scalp lost some hairs due to the operation shock, and I also lost density because of thyroid issues. That amount would be great to get back :) Actually it's really encouraging that Minoxidil was working for you, I will give it a try too! :)

I'd say go for it. It will require you having to post pictures, maybe (depends on what you want of course), and that means giving up some privacy. Or, you could wait until you can start a blog here (I don't know how many posts you have to have). The blogging system here is pretty fabulous! :D

I was born with a three-head, lol.
The hairs transplanted from the back won't thin out the way the side hairs and top hairs do on some women. If you have short/thin/finer temple-area hairs, the minoxidil would be a very good idea so you keep a natural look. If your temple and vertex hair is thick and full, it won't make much of a difference.

Congrats! I think this is amazing and thanks so much for sharing with us.
You are so beautiful - before and after. I also love your funky hair styles.
I think a blog would be a great idea if you were interested.

Are the transplanted hairs expected to grow to full length? I suppose so, but just was wondering anyway.

Dear Ladies, thank you very much for your empowering comments, it means a lot to me :pegasus: (btw, is there any possibility to "tag" members in forum, like @lapushka @Serimel @heyheadsbird @maborosi @rmani - like in FB?) Also sorry for a bit late reaction, but the last days of ski season are kicking, and my husband tries to spend as much time at the slopes as possible. I'm tired like a dog :D
lapushka: these are exactly the questions why it would be great to have someone else here who already had transplant :):):) In theory, these hairs are supposed to grow as they did it in the past - I guess it means they are supposed to have the same terminal length. But. They are not even looking now as they did in the past - the matured new hairs seems to be CURLY and COARSE, absolutely the opposite of my medium/fine silky mixture at other places (I categorized myself as M/F , because I have mainly medium hairs - with good visibility, but barely perceptible between fingers, and a good amount (approx 30%) whispy, translucent threads).
I'm aware that it might, or might not change over time (though I love this texture:) ), but if the texture has changed, maybe the terminal length might be changed too.
Unfortunately I found only male blogs about FUE hair transplant, and all of them had short hairs. I also seen few female results published by doctors, but not more than 4-5, and all of them was consisting a few before picture, and a few after picture arounf 6-8 months post-op. I almost reached this timeline by now, so I have no extra knowledge beyond this point :)

And here is an example photo of the texture change (I hope I can insert a shot to here) - no, it needs a URL :/ I add it to my album then :)
Until now, my hair looked always the best right after washing, and became incredible flat as soon as I reached day2. Now I look like an old rocker right after washing (silky hair at sides, short coarse hair on the top, and the top strands are all looking towards the sky :rockerdud: ) , and they start to tame around the end of day 2 :)

Thanks for explaining! :) I have a bit finer/thinner temple area as crown, but I had it all of my life, as far as I remember. Also my doctor explained me, that the hair is always the strongest and highest density on the top-back part, and gradually gets less dense and thick as it goes towards the face/down the neck (even in healthy individuals). With finer hair it's more noticeable, with stronger, coarser hair it's more subtle.* But I will try anyhow the Minoxidil, because I've experienced a good amount of overall shedding 3-4 years ago (before I've been diagnosed as hypothyroid), and I feel I did not fully grown back that amount. So maybe Minoxidil can be the answer :)
*I was asking him specifically the question whether I have signs of either male or female pattern baldness, because 1. I wanted to be sure that I won't be left with a "fence" on my forehead a few years after operation and 2. I had a few insensitive comments in the past from hairdressers. It has happened only couple of times, but I remember them quite vividly. Once when I went to a new hairdresser for a cut, and she washed my hair, started to ask me since when I'm getting bald in the front (I told her that since I've been born), and an other one tried to sell me anti-baldness treatment after I shown her my forehead behind the bangs. It can be pretty disheartening, especially if you know that it's how you looked like in your whole life. So I wanted to make sure with a professional whether I'm having any baldness or not, and he told that for him it's quite visible that I'm not balding (from the hair quality around the hairline), but this is my natural pattern and density, so I should not be worried. It was such a relief.

You have a story to tell and a voice, and I'd make use of that to start a blog or site on it; even if you do it here. It's up to you. But it would be so worth it to get a woman's perspective on this issue!

Yes, I fully agree and convinced by now, so I start it, as soon I figuring out a good name for the blog:) I reserved varkocs.blog.hu (in Hungarian it's archaic word for "braids"), but maybe an English name would be easier to remember.

I've used both Blogger/Blogspot (Google's blog service) and Wordpress, and don't have any major complaints. I don't have anything positive to say about Tumblr, though (some people love it, but I'm not one of them). Those are the only blog services I've tried.
