Hi Everyone,
For the last few years I just sort of refused to get my hair cut. So now my hair is about hip length. It has a lot of split ends and layers that were left over from before. I decided I want to get it cut about 5 or 6 inches to get rid of those layers and split ends. I know the hairdresser is going to try to talk me into layers, she always does. But I always wear my hair up in some way, and I don't want to deal with layers. But how do you guys style the front? Do you have bangs or like long pieces that you pull out from your up dos? I thought about asking for that but I'm afraid I'll end up regretting it. I just sort of think my face could use some hair around it for softening. thoughts on that or suggestions of how you style the front when you wear your hair in braids or ponytails, etc?

I discovered that I far preferred some face-framing pieces, otherwise I looked almost bald with my hair all skinned back against my head. I even wore and enjoyed bangs for a few years. Find some pictures that you like to show your hair stylist. If you find something you really like, you may decide it's not for you after all, but you shouldn't regret it too much.
Remember, we often regret things we did not do more than we regret the things we did.

Hi!
it just depends on you & your face & hair :D
I used to have bangs - like forever - but now my hairline just makes them look weird, (widows peak) So they're all grown out now. it took about a year for them to get to the point where they'll go back to my bun. If they are down they look like face framing layers.

I've had bangs most of my life. I'm currently growing them out. They are past my eyes. I have longer layers which have grown out and my hair is 95% one length. Bangs are cute though. If you don't have them now, it's an adjustment especially if you don't like them. You can get a longer bang and brush them off to the side, rather than a very defined "blunt" bang.
Some of these stylists, you sit in the chair and they become Edward Scissor Hands. Don't let anyone talk you into anything. You wear the crown.

This is more of a defined bang. Different hair type than the one from above.

Yes, I know what you mean about hairdressers becoming Edward Scissorhands! I think I've decided to just go very conservative on my cut and just do the trim this time and think longer about the bangs. I think they would look nice, but I'm also chicken! haha Thanks for your feedback, guys!

I don't style the front, I just pull it all back; if you don't like that look, get some face-framing layers perhaps? But beware of the hairdresser trying to cut other layers in (because chances are, they might do that, the "cut" may need it).

I look better with bangs, but short pieces in front get on my nerves: they get in my eyes and face and act pesky!
I do other stuff with front sections: pouf it up, make a pin curl or victory roll, make a knot, braid it across my forehead, twist it back, whatever!

oh man, yeah I'm sure my hairdresser is going to try to talk me into all kinds of things. She likes to thin my hair and she always likes layers. I think I'm going to learn how to just play with the front in other ways-- at least for now!
