View Full Version : Bad balayage, opinions?

Hi,

I got my hair done a few days ago. I asked for balayage in the style of the first pic but ended up with the second pic by an 'artistic director' of a reputable salon that I researched. The hairdresser used foils and there was double the amount on the left side (where I part my hair) compared to the right, as a result there is a lot more blonde on that side and the right side looks brown with a strand or two of blonde. It's really patchy and fake looking and nothing like what I asked for. It cost £80/$96 without a blow dry (I had to leave early as they had already delayed my appointment by 2 hours but insisted they could complete the job on time). The blonde was left very lilac from a purple shampoo and looks over processed next to my brown hair now I have washed it out. I have contacted the salon who are going to speak with the stylist tomorrow then get back to me. The person I booked in with didn't do it, it was this AD's first day at that salon. Have I got grounds to complain? I hate complaining but don't know what to do with this mess!

https://s24.postimg.org/67q18t7p1/IMG_0682.jpghttps://postimg.org/image/rsem6go9z/I'm devastated as I want to go extension free and have let my hair grow, not dyed it etc. For 5 months and then this happens.

Prices are average for a reputable 'celeb' salon where I live. I was quoted £90 on average with a blow dry, she was going to charge me more for the tint but because I left with wet hair she took about £30 off.

If you don't mind going darker, you could tone down the blonde with a demi dye and it would blend more.

Thanks :) I wanted to go lighter as I'm quite pale and thought this would brighten around the face, but it's like dark on top then underneath is all this patchy blonde. It confuses me, lol.

Yes, you have the right to complain. You payed for a service and the stylist botched it. They should fix it for free but make sure it's not the same stylist.

I agree. I think that someone skilled in Balayage should be able to remedy the situation by blending the light areas into the darker areas better.

Maybe the skilled colorist could also lighten a few strands in the front near your face.

I hope someone at the salon admits the problem and offers a fix. Definitely show them the pictures you show here--it's obviously not what you were asking for.

Good luck!

Bingo. Exactly what I would do. Actually I have before! Once for a botched dye job and at least two other times for a cut that I wasn't happy with. Each time it was fixed for free, and one of the stylists even thanked me for giving her the opportunity to fix the cut. For a botched dye job though I would definitely ask for someone else to fix it, especially if the original person is brand new.

Thank you so much for reassuring me! I've washed it several times and put several treatments on over the last few days, but it was still irking me every time I styled it, the skunk strands would be peeking through :( this was my older style and it's a much better blend even though I had all sorts going on with the colour back then https://s23.postimg.org/u1npus7bf/IMG_0465.jpg I showed her the pictured how I wanted it done this time and she told me she'd seen it once and knew what she was doing, I didn't need to keep showing her. Obviously she didn't! Sigh...

Oh, I will definitely be requesting the original stylist if they offer to fix it :)

Sorry I can't edit on here, I don't know what I'm doing. I meant original as in the balayage woman who should have done it, not the one who ruined it! Thank you so much everyone :)

Oh dear, yes you definitely have a legitimate complaint. :(

I hope the salon fixes it, for free.

I would tell them that they need to fix your hair. It's a salons job to give you what you are happy with, as long as it can be reasonably achieved on your hair.

If for some reason, they can't or won't fix it, and you want to resolve it yourself the best hair dye I have ever used (not kidding, I've tried hundreds) is the Revlon Colorsilk. It's $3 a box. Leaves your hair soft and beautiful and stays in for a long time. You can always dye the highlighted parts a light brown or medium blonde to offset the highlights since they are so uneven and it will help out some warm tones in your hair. Plus it really helps improve the feel of your hair, even if it's super damaged like mine was.

Would the salon possibly rhyme with pony and pie? If so i went to the same salon and asked for highlights but always came back with ginger parts at the roots. Never went back.

Thanks guys :) over the years I've had awful service from salons etc. and never when back but I guess this is the straw that broke the camels back. I wouldn't want to touch it myself, wouldn't know where to begin tbh! but thanks for the tip, Adavidal :)

It wasn't Pony and Pie, lol. But it was in the business quarter of my city and is pushing itself as a higher-end salon with rave reviews online. One of the most disappointing experiences I've had, an empty, silent salon with the Christmas tree still up then Christmas music started playing, told not to talk to the stylist because it slows her down, it was bloody awful looking back!

I would mercilessly complain, I mean what do you have to lose anyway??? The worst that can happen is that they'll turn you down and then you can threaten to give them a negative opinion online. Also check the consumer protection rights (https://www.gov.uk/consumer-protection-rights). Maybe I'm a bit upset with salons [looking at you Pony and Pie (haha)] because I bought a specialist shampoo for £12 this weekend and at home I noticed that the bottle has already been opened and there is some product at the opening, like it's been squeezed out if you know what I mean.

That's disgraceful! I've always been reluctant to buy from salons because of that I've messaged again for an update, really don't want to go back but I'm not made of money lol so can't be going to another salon paying through the nose to get it rectified. They have replied now as I'm typing this and offered to sort it tomorrow, they offered the same woman to sort it LOL or another stylist there, I will have to see if I can find examples of her work...

Yes, I agree with the people who've said you have a complaint there. Do go back! Good luck!

rooting for you!! Fingers crossed the other stylist will fix it nicely. You could ask for the previous one to do it? (the one that do your hair right the first time)

I agree with everyone as you definitely have a right to complain. I hope they work something out with you!

It's easy to push you to the back burner when it's the telephone or email. March yourself back in there and ask to speak to the manager. Show her or him what was done to you. They generally don't want an unhappy customer standing at the counter, possibly influencing other customers. You deserve a free correction or your money back. Period.

Good luck when you go back!! I hope it turns out better this time. I wouldn't let that same stylist fix it though, especially since you'd booked your original appointment with a different stylist and they had failed to honor that!!

^^ Oh so much this! You won't see how fast they can get to help you, until you do something like that! Because everyone in there can see your hair and what you're complaining about, and trust me, that will scare others! Not that it's *so* terrible, but terrible enough that it should've been done more professionally!

Cheers, everyone :flowers:. I asked for a morning appt and will go back next week so I can at least give my hair a two week break, just waiting for them to reply to my request to see the other stylist. I think they're worried I'll post the image on their Facebook etc. I'm just dreading going in and the hairdresser actually lives in the next street! Oh, don't worry, I've had so many hair disasters from these so-called professionals and even though I'm gutted because it's taken 2 years to get it back to this length, I can laugh at how terrible it looks (if I don't I'll cry!).

Definitely get a colour correction. You paid enough to get that surely.

Yeah I wouldn't do that unless you don't want them to correct it. I'd try and be respectful about it until they get a chance to fix it. Great for you for not doing that, and they will thank you for it for sure!
