I joined LHC in the end of November suffering from my brittle, heat damaged hair desperate to find a solution to tame the uncontrollable frizz and find a cure for the dryness. Here is a picture of the starting point on 27nd of November, it’s my hair typing photo. The hair looks so rough and frizzy that I was a bit embarrassed to post this pic. However, I feel I’ve come a long way from this in just one month of time.

Straight after joining LHC I started studying about long hair care like a maniac. I had already given up heat tools 2 weeks prior to joining and now I was learning many more things like clarifying which was one of the first things I did. I started washing my hair 2 times per week instead of every second day doing a deep conditioning treatment once a week and using oils to keep the moisture in my hair. For the first time in my life I also avoided washing my length with shampoo and applied it primarily to the scalp area. I’ve also started to wear my hair in protective buns and braids.

The pic below with yellow shirt and loose braid waves is taken in the morning on 3rd December. Sleeping in a braid has really made my life easier and I’m not losing as much hair as I used to with all the tangling I had to manage with having hair open all the time. Braiding has really reduced my frizz too.

The pic with the black shirt is taken on 11th December one day after my first trim since one year. It’s showing my natural wave pattern and looks already much better than the starting point in November. I started off with only a 0.5 inch trim. I know in reality my ends need a bigger trim but this was already a huge step for me since I’m still thraumatized by my last visit to salon one year ago when they cut my hair from hip length to somewhere between brastrap and midback length. After that cut I had really full hemline though. I just wish I had given up heat tools by that time already. I would have saved my hair from so much breakage.

In the below pictures you can see my hair with green sweater in the evening of 25th December. In the morning I did a heavy prewash oiling and after shampooing deep conditioned my hair in sauna heat. After airdrying I did my first ever double dutch braids which looked really clumsy but created nice waves afterwards. I was really pleased how my hair looked on the Christmas Day, it was the best gift I received that day. :D

The pic on the right with light grey sweater shows my hair 30th December airdried after CWC-LOC which has become my hairwash routine lately. I feel I’ve gained a lot of shine and my hair is much more manageable.

I’m so glad I have found this forum packed with all this information to take better care of my hair. People here are so kind and helpful and I want to thank you for warm welcome and all the support you offer to us newbies. I feel I’ve gotten a completely new hair without having to have a drastic haircut or colour. All it took was to change my routines and pay attention to details I never took into account before. I have never had a better relationship with my hair and enjoyed it more than at the moment. It’s really a nice way to start the new year and looking forward to the journey ahead. My aim is to have all virgin hair one day and grow as long as I can!

Thank you chomsky! I couldn't believe the difference myself. I know my hair is not the healthiest under the surface but at least it looks ok enough now that I can manage to keep it long while cutting the damaged parts off little by little and hopefully achieve a fuller hem in the future. Now I'm just in for the ride and wanna enjoy every moment of process. :)

Serimel what lovely length you have, and the condition is so so much better! I feel exactly the same, all it took was a few simple changes and practicing what I call "hair awareness" to better avoid future damage.

I wish I could see the kind of drastic turn around that I also had those first few weeks of LHC, because it was so gratifying to see the changes so obviously. Now, my hair has settled into our new routine and is chilling, and no longer shows me those drastic, positive results (but in the long run, that's a good thing, I know).

Beautiful!!!

Thank you Alissalocks! Isn't it in anything we do, first progress is rapid and then it slows down. That's the time when true commitment is tested. :) I know hair growing is a waiting game, have to grow some patience too. :D

lapushka I'm dreaming already 3 years ahead! :D (Talk about growing patience...)

Amazing results! What do you think helped most with keeping your hair hydrated? I'm also rather new and tbh I'm quite overwhelmed with all the information, do you have any tips on where to get started/what you think is most important? :)

Thanks pili!

honeymoon for me the most important thing after stopping heat damage has been clarifying all the product build up which I had never done in my life. That's why my hair wasn't able to receive moisture in the first place. After that I could see great results from even just my normal conditioner. I've also added prewash oilings once a week and whenever my ends start to feel dry I add some leave in and oil. All this is quite new to me so I'm still testing what works for me and what not.
