View Full Version : A tale of two lengths

I started LHC with BSL hair, but it was so damaged from flat ironing that I decided to start clean with this barely APL layered cut:
http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c79/spidermom/October2005.jpg (http://s25.photobucket.com/user/spidermom/media/October2005.jpg.html)

But my goal was classic length, and I did it!
http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c79/spidermom/splatterviolet.jpg (http://s25.photobucket.com/user/spidermom/media/splatterviolet.jpg.html)

I loved it in pictures (who could deny that it was gorgeous like that?), and I was proud of it, but in real life I was often annoyed. I hated having to wash it when the weather was cold, then spending hours with wet hair hanging all over me or spending an hour to blow dry it. Therefore I avoided getting the exercise that I needed because I didn't want to have to do something about my sweaty hair. Plus no matter what I tried, and I got a lot of advice from LHC and did a lot of trims, I always had hundreds to thousands of split ends.

I held onto my long hair through various changes in shape (straight, U, V), bangs, and face-framing bits because I hated how it looked all skinned back in a bun, which is how I wore it most of the time because it was quick and convenient.
http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c79/spidermom/624a856b-4b01-440f-9305-99c346d449fa_zpsjflzplcp.jpg (http://s25.photobucket.com/user/spidermom/media/624a856b-4b01-440f-9305-99c346d449fa_zpsjflzplcp.jpg.html)
That was certainly better than hair all skinned back, but the problem remained that I was walking around with a big wad of hair forked to the back of my head most of the time, and it made me feel old and dumpy, especially since I gained quite a bit of weight while I was growing out my hair and avoiding exercise more days than not.

Now I'm starting a new career and a new life. As I'm interviewing and starting a new job, I want to devote myself to exercising regularly. So I need hair that is easy to wash or rinse and dry and that looks attractive to a majority of people. I don't even look attractive to myself in a bun!

I walked out of the salon with this today:
http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c79/spidermom/7abf722e-da45-4342-adf2-56931c66f769_zps9wq8lxpv.jpg (http://s25.photobucket.com/user/spidermom/media/7abf722e-da45-4342-adf2-56931c66f769_zps9wq8lxpv.jpg.html)
I love how it curves in on my neck and hides the jowly bits that I was hiding with the scarf above. I don't know if I look any younger, but I feel younger and more vibrant. My hair is so bouncy and light, and I think the cut and style really bring out the beauty of my hair color as well as flatters my features.

This is the blow-dried style that the hair stylist did (she was awesome!). I'll have to come back with another picture when I wash it again and do a naturally wavy style.

I think it looks really good on you and still long enough to look very feminine and long enough to be easy to pull back when you want it out of your way. I am glad you are happy. That is all that matters! :-)

Wow, Spidermom - you are so pretty!:queen: You look gorgeous! Your hair is yours to do what you want with it. I understand that it must be difficult having so much hair! I would LOVE to have that problem. My hair dries in 30 min! :p A lot of women prefer shorter lengths as they get older because they feel that a bun makes them look older. It's probably true. A bun on a 25 year old is not the same as a bun on a middle aged person. I know I don't look that hot with a bun either. So I'm wearing my hair down more.

That's a good thing, right?

My classic length hair was perfect for me at that time in my life, and this new cut is perfect for me now.

Thanks for the hair history! I think your new cut is great and you look beautiful with it! I think you also looked beautiful in the face framing layer picture you posted, but you are right, its a different look and this cut looks like it is perfect for you now. I also want to see your new cut styled wavy. Enjoy your wonderful "new" hair! Im very happy for you. :)

Spiderman you look fantastic! You had a goal and had the length, and now know your preference.

I know exactly what you mean about trying to use a scarf to make the jaw and neck area look better. Sometimes hair around the face and neck just creates a lovely frame. Hope your new life is filled with joy!!
