Im having a lot of hair problems
I grew my hair out last year after having my hair cut into a bob it grew and i ended up having my natural hair to my neck with (old ends) to below my boobs.

I had a lot of split ends i thought it would help to get the ends cut of because the ends were old and damaged...
so the other day i went to salon and got my ends cut of (hair now only to neck)

my hair is just terrible its all natural now and although it is very soft like a babys hair i can see loads of split ends all up my hair there is only about 4inches from roots without them.

When i stand under the light it is very visible from there to the ends , its mostly noticeable standing under light although it is noticeable in daylight to but even more under light

- i dont use heat at all
- i try and finger comb my hair
- i sleep on satin pillow (recently)
- i use coconut oil, olive oil, hair treatments
- i wash my hair every 2-3 days

i dont know what more i can do its getting very annoying
When i got my hair cut the hairdresser said she didnt no why it was like it and that it could be that my hair had broke of then was growing back (im not sure)

i have shorter pieces at my roots also so it could be hair that has grown down new hair but to me because there is so much appears to be split ends

i cant get no more cut of at once because my hair is so short to me already and i dont really want layers either.

what would you do if you were me?

my hair is straight with a slight wave, is very thin/fine but i have a lot of it

I do have medical conditions poly cystic ovary syndrome and endometriosis i dont know if this is causing it or not it can happen but i dont think it would be like it is if it was because of that.

If it is splitting up i dont know how to grow it without it splitting on my new growth.
Ive done the twist and cut the ends but there still bad

Are you sure it's not new growth? Split ends are very distinctive, they're Y-shaped.

i cant be sure the ends of my hair that i had cut of were terrible they were definitely split like a tree there was branches coming of like you described a Y these are like thin strands of hair with a straight end.

It looks like loads of hairs have just snapped at all different lengths (it could be regrowth i dont know)

there is none 4 inches from the roots which is strange but this is new recent hair so if it is damaged or split i dont want it traveling up onto that

A picture would sure be helpful, of your hair texture. And when you say your natural hair grew in? Was it relaxed, permed? I don't quite understand, I guess.

I may be new to the heathy hair lifestyle and all, but I've had damaged split hair for 15+ years. So from a woman with experience with damaged hair, I'd say your hair looks extremely healthy. Your shorter ends look like new growth to me also.

Your hair is very beautiful

Thank you for all your opinions and advice : ) i was getting worried that it was all splitting as my hair was all damaged before i actually grew it out last year due to colouring a lot!! i had every colour, it was really long so its weird having it a lot shorter again but i do have fast growing hair so im not worried about the length to much and i think it will thicken up as it grows.

I thought i was going to have to regrow it all over again PHEW!! :D

I am so glad you posted this because this is happening to my hair too. My hair is shorter overall, but very similar with the wispy bits like in your first photo and similar to the one where you hold a strand up and you can see the whisps down the length.
Happy that its most likely new growth and not split ends or where the hair has snapped off, but is there a way to tame them?
Also perhaps it's just because we're on here concentrating on our hair that we're super aware of the whisps - the photos you took with out light I can't see them at all - perhaps if we looked at everyone's with as much scrutiny we'd see that everyone has whispies.

That's just new growth that isn't a pin-straight hair texture to me . While there may have been splits too, it looks like new growth. Everyone has new growth and many people unfortunately assume any flyaways are splits, which is false (usually, it's just new growth). Hair grows in at different lengths at different times, just like hair sheds every day.

Are you sure they are split ends? A split end is a single hair, that ends in forks. Whereas a normal hair has just the one ending to it.

Your hair looks like mine! I am growing out a big shed and I have all that new hair that does that. It can look crazy but it's a good sign!

It is new growth. I have the same fly-away, wispies. I had a major shed and a lot of breakage till June. I was glad to see them. Though it did look a bit untidy on me. Now they have grown longer
