Did you take it in wet or dry hair? Directions on bottle says towel dry hair after shampoo. But I would really prefer to do it on dry hair, since my towel dry hair without conditioner is a mass of tangles! And then I'm worried the colour won't distribute evenly (or ill damage my hair trying to untangle it).
I've got Cajun spice and Cinnamon that I'm doing on blonde roots and copper coloured lengths.

I used it on dry hair. I smeared it in with gloved hands, then combed through. Came out fine. :)

Comb through before washing, be careful not to mess hair all around while washing (finger-comb shampoo through), rinse, then press with a tshirt or flannel pillowcases to absorb the excess water. This strategy should prevent the mass of tangles.

Any kind of moisture and my hair glues to itself until it's dry, no way around it!

I haven't tried Adore specifically, but I get really even results with semi permanent dye on dry hair. I would wash and condition (rinsing out) as usual but not use any leave-ins or other products that might block the dye, then air-dry to at least 90% if not fully. I started out using a tint brush and carefully sectioning, but my dog ate my brush so I found I got the same results smooshing it in with my hands. Nowadays if I want to refresh my color I do it in the shower after I've washed and squished most of the water out of my hair with a towel, apply haphazardly with fingers and I leave it on for ~15 minutes while I get the rest of my routine done. I'm only patchy if I decide to mix my dye/conditioner in my actual hands one glob at a time (and let's be honest, that's exactly what I'm doing). When I pre-mix my color I usually get even results on damp hair, but the color doesn't last as long (possibly because it only absorbs so much in 15 minutes). In my experience semi permanents do not like to stick to unprocessed hair if diluted and should be left in for a long time (I sometimes apply my dye at night and sleep in a shower cap, but usually a few hours will do). A bit of heat can help the dye absorb as well, but I never bothered. Since I've been growing my roots out lately, and because my dye is really diluted with conditioner to a pastel, my blond roots don't pick up any dye, but I used to dye more vivid pink on top of my natural color and it worked fine, though my highlighted hairs did show up brighter.
When/if you go for it I'd love to hear your thoughts on how it went and how it turned out, I've been side-eyeing Adore's ginger thinking about blending my regrowth a little but it's a little hard to find reviews and I haven't seen any so far on hair with a different root color than the length.

I have the same problem, especially if I just clarified. I let my hair dry until I can get a comb through, then apply with a tint brush, and smush it in with my fingers (since I run into the hair gluing to itself problem once the dye is on, so I can't comb it through.)

Personally I've always used Adore on dry hair with no problem. It's just so liquidy on its own that I don't want to think what a mess it'd be on wet hair.

Hairstylist here. Applying dye to just cleaned, wet hair is not something that will increase your results. At all. It can in fact lead to more damage and less than ideal results due to the fact wet hair cannot absorb the product as well as dry, and can lead to blotchy results for numerous reasons.
Just skip it and do on dry hair. :)

Thank you Calaen! Dry hair it is then. I've always done dye on dry hair, wether it was henna or chemical dye. It just seems weird to dilute it more than necessary!

Really weird! On some sections of my roots the colour has taken well, while other parts, not so much.

Thats usually the problem with using it on dry hair, wet hair has an easier time "mixing" itself with the dye. The water helps majorly. Adore is pretty thick in my opinion.

Then different colours must have different textures, because the dyes I used was not thick! They were thin and runny.

Possibly! I only used the adore black. I remember having difficulty getting everything out of the bottle. Though that was years ago. I am talking 3-5 years ago, so maybe the formula changed.

I would also be interested in the adore ginger dye and am in the same position as you wispe only my dyed hair is in much worse condition. I don't really want any dye on my roots but I suppose if this doesn't damage at all then it won't effect my natural hair

It doesn't have any peroxide or bleach or anything, it's just a color "stain". When I re-dye my hair with semis I see it as a deep treatment that leaves color behind. I think Adore's ginger might be too ginger for me so I'd have to dilute mine w/ white conditioner, but I'm guessing it's closer to your color if you do go for it. And since its semi, it will fade + wash out over time. Right now my pinks are really washed out on top as I've only been re-dying the nape. I have a backstock of various pink dyes I need to use up (and since I dilute all of mine they last forEVER) but I'm tempted to order a bottle and test it out on some sheds. I'm not really feeling the need to do my whole head just yet, but it could be useful to have on hand.

Interesting discussion, I've always mixed Adore with conditioner on dry hair or applied straight rarely on freshly washed squeezed out hair. Didn't know any different
