Who here also deals with shrinkage? Feel free to share yours too.

This crazy shrinkage used to bother me, but I embrace it now.

The first two pictures are my curly hair versus stretched (not fully straight) hair. The others are just a strand pulled.

I like it!! I bet it sproings up in a really bouncy way once you let go from stretching it!! :) I don't deal with shrinkage as a straighty. How does it affect when you call lengths? Do you call it twice, once for stretched and once for curly?

That is absolutely crazy awesome! I have some shrinkage, but it is nothing like this. Maybe 2" worth. It could just be from a breeze from the fan. :thud:

Secret longhair!
I only get a couple inches of shrinkage. Your unstretched length must vary quite a lot from day to day.
BTW your curls look fantastic.

Yes, it's very springy. For length checks, I only do them for my stretched hair. I am past APL, getting close to BSB now, but my curly hair is ear length. By the time I reach shoulder length curly, I will probably be midback to waist length straight.

Thank you :) It is crazy awesome, but also crazy hard to detangle haha

I agree, I only measure my stretched hair for length checks. I'm measuring how much hair I actually have to deal with, not where it happens to fall on my body on any particular day (which can totally change based on variables like humidity, temperature, how recently I've washed it, etc.)

I have a little less shrinkage than you, but it's still significant. My shrinkage conceals about half my length. I used to hate it, recently I've come to love it as it makes my hair appear so much thicker! I basically get double the thickness I would have if it was straight.

This isn't that great as a length photo, but shows what my hair (very clumped and slightly stretched) looks like curly. Normally I'd separate it a bit more to make it look thicker, and it would have increased shrinkage too. Fully stretched it's tailbone length.

I measure stretched too. Not that I have that much shrinkage.
Pretty hair! :)

Tatilove, beautiful hair. Gorgeous hair with fabulous shrinkage.
That's why we coily heads measure stretched. Otherwise, even with maximum length retention, we'd be at the same "length" for years.

I have shrinkage. I hardly deal with it since my hair is usually up in a protective updo. I measure stret change ed for photo days.

Omg Tatilove I just love your super curly/coily texture and the volume that comes with it! It's the texture I always wished I'd been born with and I have the polar opposite, lol!

On the opposite end of the spectrum, I have about zero shrinkage, and pretty much zero volume too ;)

Thank you for posting so I can live vicariously through your hair :) :)

Amazing hair, Tatilove, whether it's stretched or has shrunken up! Does it shock people how long it is if you wear it braided?

Thanks for sharing that Taitlove. I used to think my shrinkage on my 4's coils was annoying. Then I started dreadlocks and my hair shrank on an extreme next level. I don't miss the detangling but those loose curls sure are pretty to look at.

Tatilove, that's some beautiful shrinkage. It means you get to play around with different lengths hair styles without cutting anything. There's good volume with shrinkage too. I've also got shrinkage. My hair is waist length but looks Midback length in plaits/braids. It'll look a little shorter than that on loose hair.

Lovely hair, Tatilove and XiaoBaiTu! I love watching the shock people have when they see the true length of curly hair.

Shrinkage never bothered me; it keeps my hair out of my way. I need to take some more pics of it soon.

Your hair and curls is gorgeous, Tatilove!! I never realized how much shrinkage some people have until learning more about hair types, but I think it is really cool to have hair like that. I get a little bit of shrinkage too, and ever since I began moisturizing my locks better, I have been getting a lot more shrinkage (last time was almost 10 inches), though considering my length it isn't a whole lot. When people see my braid they say my hair must look much longer when loose, though because of shrinkage, my hair looks about the same length as my braid length or shorter.

Here's my most recent picture that sort of shows my shrinkage ( stretched it was mid-thigh), though the lighting makes my hair look a bit of a different color than it really is. I rarely leave it out to curl though.

Thank you, pailin. Yes, the length varies a lot. I learned a few tricks on how to stretch my curls to make them look looser and longer. I can get shoulder length curls that way, but it's time consuming.

It seems that I'm the only one who can't see the photo you posted, I can tell from your profile picture that you have such lovely hair.

Same here school of fish. I used to want this beautiful silky hair. In fact, when I was younger, I wore my hair straight all the time. Now that I know how to care for my hair texture, I only flat iron it once in a while.

Even a close friend of mine was shocked when I wore it straight this summer. Going from ear length to below arm pit is a nice surprise. By the time I'm BSL straight, I probably won't even be neck length curly.

God! I absolutely love the look of dreadlocks. Not detangling must be a dream too. I'd love to see some pictures.

Thank you! Yes, over the summer I started to experiment and watched YouTube videos about different styles I can do. Amazing how versatile kinky/curly hair is.

I saw your hair on another thread. I'm a big fan if your coils. They're beautiful.

Thank you :) and yes, it would probably take me another 2+ years just to reach shoulder length curly.
