hey guys, i have always wanted to have a man-bun, but unfortunately i always cut my hair when it gets long and messy(before reaching the mun)

However, i have managed to keep my hair for about 9 months, but some times i cant style it because my hair is curly(like the pic attached below) https://www.google.com.eg/search?q=curly+hair+men&tbm=isch&imgil=y1fQdnwKuvzc1M%253A%253BYK0lw2gffFVQJM%253Bh ttp%25253A%25252F%25252Ftherighthairstyles.com%252 52Fcurly-hairstyles-for-men-20-ideas-for-type-2-type-3-and-type-4-curly-hair%25252F&source=iu&pf=m&fir=y1fQdnwKuvzc1M%253A%252CYK0lw2gffFVQJM%252C_&usg=__6ogXI1Vz2roxNYTZfa6Nv8j1bqY%3D&biw=1280&bih=923&ved=0ahUKEwjDu5ahovnOAhWBnRQKHQUaCmkQyjcILQ&ei=k_DNV4OmGoG7UoW0qMgG#imgrc=y1fQdnwKuvzc1M%3Aand it gets very messy and crappy, so guys any ideas what shall i do at this awkward stage?

the thing is my hair is curly and half-updos makes me look stupid, and when wearing hats, my hair just kinda gets puffy out from the sides, which looks terribly bad :(

With curls, you probably just have to embrace the messiness. Get some thin black elastic headbands, like the european footballers were wearing before they all got the exact same haircut last World Cup. Use those to help wrangle the sides and parts that don't reach a ponytail. Bandanas are also good, and they'll control the sides more than a hat, but I realize it might not be the look you're after. Honestly, growing hair out from a short cut means some suffering, but most longhairs go through it at some point or another.

If you're willing to be a bit more countercultural, learn to braid. You can gather all the short and sticky-out bits into a braid that'll stay flat to your head. Think LOTR and Hobbit dwarves and stuff.

Oh, easiest way to post your pictures is with an external image host like Photobucket or Imgur. I've got a link with instructions in my sig.

I can't see the picture, sorry, but I think if you specifically want hair up in a bun, you can start off with a half-up bun and then just twist the remaining hair and wrap it and pin it around that half-up bun base. :)

We have a recent thread on man buns http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=127483

I know a number of curly-haired LHC'ers who wear their hair in a bun. One is even a man. All have very long hair, though. You may just need to ride out the awkward stage.
