View Full Version : Thinner hair and pics?

Hello everyone!

So I have finer hair. In college, perhaps because up until that point I hadn't discovered clip-in extensions which razored through my hair but let it be, it was the fullest and most beautiful in my life. I never thought I'd be the type getting compliments on my hair, but I did and like all of us here either aspiring to it or already at those ranks, it was my pride and joy (vanity moment!) Then I discovered clip-ins...and well...downward vicious cycle.

For those like me, seeing pics of men and women with finer hair who have been able to successfully grow to beautiful lengths is especially inspirational, and gives us a realistic goals to reach for. Anyone wish to contribute?

I don't know if my hair types on my profile are anywhere accurate to where I a really am (I was walking blindfolded there when signing up) but it's very shiny and baby fine. I am going to dig through my FB pics and fine a pic, myself!

Thanks to everyone reading and especially those who are so kind to provide inspirational pictures!

Happy growing!

I don't have any pictures that show the true state of how thin my hair is, but the "before" blond picture in my signature kinda shows it. While my hair was never thick to begin with, when I was about 18-19, the top of my head really thinned out, presumably from hypothyroidism. The thinning has stopped, but the hair has never grown back, and I've been stuck at BSL for years and years. I hope to pass that with the help of this site. Measuring my ponytail, I have a 2inch diameter.

Mine is I think on the thin end of i and I'm just growing out and only recently passed APL, and I haven't posted pics in ages because I keep procrastinating trimming off my last bleach damaged broken ends and shaping my hemline (I was growing from an A line bob, so hemline is really wonky atm) but honestly I don't feel like there is a lack of hair. Maybe it's the airy texture or the fact that I don't really wear my hair down and loose (it's baby fine and super fragile and cobweb-y), but when I let it down, I'm always pleasantly surprised by how much hair I have. My buns are kind of small and compact, but my figure 8/infinity bun has just outgrown my DPN fork, so I feel like that's an achievement!

I will post a pic or two once I get a trim

My hair is just under 2" circumference with quite a lot of taper. It's currently somewhere around mid-thigh length and I've been maintaining there for the last two years I think. I currently have no desire to go longer but that's purely because I think this length is the most aesthetically pleasing and hasn't got anything to do with my hair type/quality.

Here are some recent length and bun pics of mine:

I don't have many pics up, but the earlier ones are from when my hair was about 2.5" in circumference. It's been slowly going up over the years (no idea why, sure isn't better eating or lack of stress!) to be about 3" currently.

ETA: I believe my album is visible to LHC members.

maria-asa, thank you for posting your pictures! What an inspiration your hair is!

My hair is a little thicker than yours (2inches in diameter, and I have a fringe), and only 19 inches long at the moment. I often think the circumference looks a bit thin when I wear it in a ponytail. My goal is to grow it to waist without trimming, as I have heard that long tapered hair is easier to put up in buns. In the past, I have always cut it in a blunt cut, and found it difficult to keep up, as it is rather slippery, so I have never got beyond BSL, before giving up and cutting.

Welll, from your pictures I see that thinner hair looks beautiful put up in a bun, and looks like gossamer when it is down :) Altogether, BEAUTIFUL!

My extremely slippery, blunt-cut, fine/thin hair stays in buns just fine. The taper issue may be more likely true for thick hair. Certainly I can imagine how that might be so.

Thank you everyone! It's so encouraging to see that even those of us with thinner or finer hair can grow to gorgeous lengths, too! This, for me, is truly inspirational because it reflects what I can truthfully achieve! Gorgeous each and every one! I am looking for a specific pic I thought I had on my FB but I cannot find it :(

Gorgeous hair! I totally agree with Rosemaria's comment that when worn down its like beautiful gossamer. :o

I've always loved how soft and shiny fine and thinner hair looks - so delicate!

I have quite fine hair but it has a lot of floof to it so I am not sure if it's what you're looking for but I've managed to grow mine to hip with minimal damage or problems. Definitely requires specific hair care - but what hair type doesn't! :)

This is definitely inspiring, I have extremely fine hair and have been unsure if my kind of hair can really support long lengths? Short answer, yes! Thanks for pic shares :blossom:

Maria_asa, you are still my hair idol!! :crush:

Aspensong, your hair is beautiful!

My hair is super baby fine, on the low end of i (I just got back up to 1.5" ponytail from a huge shed), and I've had it to hip just a couple of years ago (then I went on a med that made me shed a LOT of it, about half).

Here is my last length pic (a couple of years old) , where it had already begun shedding and I'd cut it to waist. It's right at 1.5" pony here. (Right now it's between APL and BSL and I haven't taken a pic since the shed)

You guys have all lovely hair!

Against popular and some hairdressers' belief, fine hair can be long!:cheer:

When I was 10 yrs, a hairdresser laughed at my hopes to get a longer hair. You will never get it long with that fine hair, she told me. I still remember that humiliation, as it hadn't ever occured to me that there were such things as thin hair or thick hair. From my opinion hair was either short or long. It went pretty deep as I have always thought that shoulder length was the max and even that is too long for my hair.

Now I KNOW that the hairdresser was all wrong and your pictures prove that. :happydance::happydance:

Very pretty. :D  maria your hair is so pretty!!!
I wish I had the patience to get to your length. I think that length looks great on you. Mine is BSL now, I've grown my bangs/fringe to APL. I've been going back and forth on cutting the fringe short but I decided not to.
my Husband likes my hair longer, even though it's on the finer side.

I know I already posted this picture in the Fine/thin hair thread, but I thought maybe I could post it here too.

I've always been self conscious of how thin my hair is. Really. I spent years trying to make it look fuller.
I finally grew it all out and decided to accept what I have. The end result is, I actually do like my hair. It's the healthiness that is important to me. I still am self conscious at times, but it's going to be thin whether it's long or short. And I like long hair, so that's where I'm at.

I've lost a lot of my hair due to health reasons. Joined LHC at well over 4" and I think I'm a 1 these days. I don't want to confirm because it would make me think about all my meds....so I don't!

But anyway, recently straightened my hair to do fey's trimming method, so I have a recent pic. FY, this is all of my hair, on one side. Loose curls put in with a single rag curl. Uploaded to LHC so only members can see. (Face cropped out because I have the worst acne right now and I'm self-conscious.)

My hair is growing fine, OP. It grows in finer now, and it's thin, but it's still growing. Don't worry about it.

I personally love fine and thin hair! I think it's beautiful and wispy, and it just flows like silk. I had a friend with VERY fine hair, and I've never felt hair that was softer :)

Not my hair but there's someone from the German LHC boards who has very awesome hair that'd fit this category.
I'm going to link her Instagram for all of you to go through. :)

I have coarse hair that's on the thin side. I find it very frustrating, since my sister has beautiful thick locks, while she blowdries and straightens her hair a lot and just uses whatever shampoo and conditioner she thinks smells good. This picture is from a few months ago, and as you can see, the ends are particularly thin and wispy. I don't like it but I don't like the thought of cutting a few inches at all, so I just go with it and put it in a bun.
