I can't believe I've been here for 5 years!
2011 the year of denial
In spring 2011 I hennaed my hair. The colour didn't suit me at all. I spent a few months in denial. Then I joined LHC and tried to remove it with colour b4. It darkened. Not fun. I decided that henndigo would be a really awesome idea at that point. Blonde-ish roots do not look good with henndigo. Another few months in denial. At some point I remember crying and telling my patient boyfriend that it would take me 5 years to grow it back if I cut it out...

2012 the year of acceptance
It had to come off. So I chopped it to pixie in January. I liked the pixie, even though it was two colours as it was growing out. For me this was definitely the way to go! However, I like having long hair better, so the pixie grow-out began.

2013 the year of awkwardness
Not many pictures from this time. Growing out a pixie is really awkward and chin-shoulder length hair looks really bad on me, the waves don't know what they're doing so it floofs. I got married in the middle of the pixie grow out madness stage. I just put lots of flower pins in my hair and hoped nobody would comment and make me cry  it was fine.
2014 back to where I started
Yep, having thought it would take 5 years to grow my hair back, in October 2014 I was back where I started. Evidence! This was the year I got totally addicted to hair toys as a welcome distraction from the fact that three years in it still felt really short....

2015 powering through
I got a job. A really time consuming job. It was interesting but I didn't have much time for LHC. I put it up and forgot about it. Putting it up and forgetting about it works! I also went on a diet and lost weight and I swear it made my hair look longer :silly:
2016 scissor happy
I've trimmed a ridiculous amount in the last 6 months. Until last winter, I was powering through with almost no trims, but my hair was really suffering - the ends were terrible. I've done a couple of huge trims but from here on, I think I'll be trimming a little every couple of months to stay on track.
Oh yeah, that dress I was wearing in the 2011 vs. 2014 photo? Here is my hair eating that dress! (Humidity = fuzz, sorry not-sorry about that.) And bonus french twist photo because on my actual LHC anniversary last week, my hair decided to give me the gift of behaving itself for a change...

I'm happy to be at my original LHC goal of waist after 5 years. Of course, the goal has now moved to TBL ish!
Wisdom I have gleaned
If you're looking at this with a pixie, or hoping to grow out non-removable hair colour - it can be done! Stay strong and patient!
Hair likes different things at different times. Sometimes mine likes no cones and LOC. Sometimes it likes cones and brushing. It depends on the weather, especially if you have any wave at all.
Try to be kind to other people on the internet & understand that everyone is coming from a different place. See if you can understand where they're coming from.
Find a way of being happy with your appearance with your hair where it is right now. If that means finding cool new updos or learning about makeup or seasonal colours or clothes or even just deciding your appearance isn't that important, whatever it takes - just do it!

Happy growing friends :)
