Hi All,

Just saw an amazing clip and was wondering if this was indeed Andie McDowell's real hair or extensions? Amazingly beuatiful and inspiring if the real thing. I couldn't find any info on when I Googled, so wondering if anyone here knows?

I think pretty much all the hair you see in movies and on tv are extensions.

I'd guess it's a wig, actually. Notice how her maid isn't brushing near her scalp where the wig would attach.

I remember her in michael and it was thinner then this so maybe they used extensions to make it look fuller.

Pretty funny scene tho haha

When I did my costume work placement at the national opera (Opera Australia) they told us that often they make wigs for everyone, as the cost of making a wig (40 hours work on average) was lower than hiring hairdressers to work every night of the run.

If it's thicker than usual, they could have pinned rats underneath the top layer, or teased the non-visible bits

Thanks for all your replies and feedback folks! I still can't find any interviews or mention of her hair, but Tosca, this makes sense. I'm still dreaming for all this luscious volume though! LOL

It's wrong to assume that nearly everyone wears wigs or extensions in movies. Some actresses (and actors) are blessed with gorgeous locks naturally. Andie McDowell was noted for her fabulous hair and I also remember reading that she cut it off because she was fed up of people going on about her hair. In this particular movie clip I think the hair is a bit too thick than in other films I have seen her in. So I would say some of it, is extensions or a wig. I remember it being said that everyone wore wigs in Lord of the Rings just because it was kinder for their natural hair because it didn't have to be teased into styles etc. So whilst Andie's hair might not be all her own in that Tarzan clip, she does have naturally beautiful hair.

I know that entertainers can have great hair. I meant that in most period films, like the one mentioned. Actors don't usually keep tailbone length hair, or even waist length for that matter. I'm not talking about just any old movie.

Wow..didn't expect to get such a variety of replies! Thanks, Everyone! Another one that stumps me is Julia Ormond in Legends of the Fall and First Knight. She had incredibly thick curls as Catherine the Great in Young Catheine a few years earlier so I can see it being hers.

I am loving this film clip of Julia Ormond... Yes! I do think that is her real hair. If you saw Sabrina -- the newer version, she cuts her hair very short in the movie when she was living in Paris and I think I read an article about how she had to really cut her hair for the movie. ;) She is one of my long hair idols.. Her hair is still long, but not long anymore like in these movies...:(

As a matter of fact, Gaelic Girl-- I can't thank you enough for posting this video clip... I had totally forgotten about Julia O's hairstyle in this movie and her others and she was and still is one of my inspiration long hair idols that helped me get through my early stages of growing my hair back. THANK YOU!! Muahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!:blossom:
