So I'm picking up cycling again. Last time I cycled I had a buzz and wearing a helmet was a breeze (literally and figuratively). :face: Now that my hair is well past APL (I'd estimate it's down to where ladies would call it BSL), I'm wondering if any of you ladies & gents protect your hair when bicycling. This morning, I'm doing a low bun with spin pins. Helmet seems to fit comfortably over it, but I'm wondering about potential damage sources.

Thanks! :)

I've also been thinking about this lately. I hate low neck buns so I've just made an English braid and let it hang down my back, and it's not on the way. Cycling in the summer can be a sweaty business though, so I don't think I'd wear any sort of cap or hat under my helmet very willingly.

I ride ATV's and use a buff under my helmet, works really well and its not been hot at all. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00FN7QFB8/
I wear mine like this https://encrypted-tbn3.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQlHRdaG970PHFZ8Kct2yZ0Q5PFgtq7I FqslUh6Pm-rDKN95lZRMw

I don't mind the low bun so much, actually, but yeah, a braid is probably more utilitarian.

Oh now that looks like a great idea. Thanks!

When i used to cycle (hair was around your length then) i just did a low english braid behind as any sort of cap i tried made me overheat and vert sweaty..

I would also recommend the buff. I started biking as my main commute almost 3 years ago. Close to a year in I noticed a lot of little hairs around my forehead- I'd never been prone to those baby hairs before. It took me close to a year after that to figure out that it was likely friction from my helmet! I started wearing the buff in January of this year and now they've grown into wispy almost bangs. I love my buff!!!

As far as the length, I usually braid it or put it in a low bun of some kind. I like to wear my buns a little higher, but that is easily fixed when I reach my destination.

I do a low modified nautilus with a ficcare to hold it and cover head with a buff to slow breakage.

Happy to report that the ride went very well...probably 25+ miles round trip. The bun was starting to come apart by the time I got home though. I'm definitely ordering at least one buff!

I'd just plait/braid the hair. I'm planning on using my new bike a lot so I'll be using a helmet. If I think the helmet is a problem I could always line it with something satin.

I cycle short distances, nothing like your 25 plus miles, WannabeViking! (Kudos!) normally with a french plait. (APL hair, so it's length is not an issue) and I've recently got a new helmet from "specialised" on the premise that it boasted having a "hair port" . Having inspected it fully at home, it frankly doesn't look all that different to other helmets , so I'm really not sure what the "hair port" is supposed to do differently. It does have a small gap at the back, that I suppose you could shove a ponytail through. But other helmets have those too. Confused. But hey, if you need a new helmet anyway, it is very comfortable, if nothing else!
I also ordered a "buff-alike" style scarf tube from Amazon. That was considerably cheaper than the real deal, and I preferred the colour ways. I wear it over my French plait , under the helmet to protect my hair from rubbing. And it looks pretty decent at other times just as a neck scarf too.
Anyway, thought I'd mention those in case it is of any interest to fellow cyclists.

Fortunately, it wasn't on the road! Very nice trail to follow. :)

I simply put my hair in a braid or two, or if I want to style it another way after taking my helmet off, I make a low ponytail and add hair ties every 20-30 cm to avoid tangling (with your length, you wouldn't need as many of course). I've never seen breakage from my helmet.

I wear my hair in pigtail braids when I bike or hike in the sun(big hat). My hair is only apl though. I just find this ore comfortable than a single braid, and unlike a ponytail I can take it down when I reach my destination if I like and it looks nice. Just remember to wear sunscreen on your nape!

I had a single braid with a band at the top and bottom today. I thought about using a scarf as well but it was pretty hot for England. :p :D
