View Full Version : Heatless Overnight Curls Using a Headband - Who has tried it and who wants to?

I have been seeing YouTube videos on this and have been studying them to see if I want to try it with my hair. My hair is waist length at the longest in the back (angling up as it goes forward to my face.) I would want to use a wide headband because I would want to try bigger, looser curls. How has it worked out for you if you tried it? Is it totally tedious to do? Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks for reading!

If your hair gets past a certain length (I would even say APL-BSL), you'll get a tangly mess. Be careful with this!

Thank you very much - I was a bit concerned about the morning after and trying to get my hair out of the wrapped state. I am trying to get saltwater damage under control at the moment too, so I am glad to read your reply! I won't be trying it. To you: :blossom:

Oh shoot! I really wanted to try this too!! My hair can be quite tangly when it is manipulated while damp so maybe this isn't the one for me. I do get quite nice waves when I damp braid but was hoping this could give a different sort of wave/curl...

Try looking up vids on YT and watch the length they're at carefully and how they do it (and take it out). The takedown is the most important.

I tried it, half of it fell out before morning and what was left on the headband was one huge knot. That was before I hit APL, I don't even want to think of what my hair would do now.

Yikes, Nadine, that's terrible!

Here's someone who does these curls regularly - succesfully (I love her "ingredient" videos):

Kayley Melissa has a heatless curls videos that are similar to the headband curls, but much less tangly. On my hair, at least. She calls them halo curls: http://www.kayleymelissa.com/#!Heatless-Halo-Curls/c1rfl/EA64D5FA-3B28-4586-B70F-8FC3EBFB71D3

I've done it in dry hair and then I spritz over it after I get it all up.

Ooh yes, and don't forget "beautyklove" on YT for a lot of heatless curls videos (even with babywipes as a "tool").

I haven't done it overnight, but put my hair in this hairstyle once as it was still slightly damp, and had really pretty waves at the evening! My hair would probably get all tangled if I did it overnight.
