View Full Version : Updos that cover ears?

Eventually, I'd like to get my ears pointed. It's weird, I know, but I'd like it, and I've thought about it for several years. One thing that makes me a little hesitant is that I wouldn't always want to be super obvious about them (job interviews, etc.) People don't tend to notice ears with hair worn down, but I'm trying to wear more updos, and would be super interested in any method/style that would consistently cover ears.

Also, I find I like the way my hair frames my face better if it's not pulled back so tightly but shows in such a way that it covers ears.

Any ideas for this out-there question? :D:o

I used to wear my hair in a loose bun with my hair over my ears, so it is very doable. Just fluff and loosen to get the tension right :)

Princess leia buns of course.

This was my first thought, too!

Any bun worn at the nape makes it easy to achieve. Higher on the scalp means you have to make the starting point looser to pull the hair over the eartips. But really, almost any bun can be formed to cover all or part of the ear.

I can usually get low ponytails and normal braids to cover my ears fairly easily and I can bun the braids/ponytail. I just make sure that it's centered as low as possible with less tension.

You could bun the hair in the back/nape area first and then do twists or soft braids with temple/front hair and pin them around the bun. Just swooping some strands backward under the bun can also do the trick, e.g like this (http://i1.wp.com/therighthairstyles.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/7-chignon-with-poof.jpg?resize=500%2C372).

Alternatively, you could first do loose side twists/braids and then incorporate them into the bun.

Lots of Regency style updos have hair covering ears really well, too.

Or check out this Swoop bun by torrinpaige: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T_MJpFWIROE or https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rx1wl8fNvto Just make sure to make the lace braid in the front really large and loose so you'll be able to create a large enough swoop for coverage.

Here are a couple more ideas (by ladollyvita33) including braided headbands and hair in the front twisted and placed in front and behind the braided headbands: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_R4QZ3NU8MY or https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vb59AeCU76A

I always have to cover my ears too, my ear lob and shape of ear are totally different. One is pixie shape and is slightly pointy and one rounded.

If I wear an up do I do relaxed bun and loosen the sides to cover the tops of my ears and pull out whispy bits around my face to match.
