View Full Version : Any wavies/wurlies/curlies who use BBB and/or do WO? I have a question for you!

What happens to your waves/curls when you regularly use a BBB? I've been trying to find pictures, especially of people with type 2 or type 3a hair, who either use a BBB and/or do WO but I can't find any! I'm intrigued by the BBB and also WO but I have no concept of what my wurls and curls would look like if I tried it. (As I've been wearing my hair curly for the last 6 years, I'm kind of terrified of all brushes.... Is it possible to get 'smooth' waves with this type of brush?? Or am I destined to always get big, poofy hair if I brush it dry?)

It's going to go "poof" with a BBB, maybe it will be smoother when you're on WO, but still, it will break up the clumps no matter how hard you try and prevent it. I mainly stopped using a BBB (I had a mixed one with nylon bristles) when I went naturally wavy. It was just impossible to combine the two, and I got myself a Tangle Teezer, you still can't brush with that (I only brush dry after a WT comb combing and pre-washing).

Yup. It will go poof.

I only have 1b hair, but my hair tends to be very poofy and frizzy for only being 1b. If I use a BBB, it does help distribute oils nicely, but I will have to use a normal comb/brush after to tame the poof left behind. I also have to be careful because the BBB tends to leave my hair very tangled.

Hi, WO and BBB user here! :) At least, I used to use my BBB almost every night--the main reason I loved it was I used to braid my hair A LOT. I only ever used it at night because of how poofy/fluffy my hair would end up, but I also always wore it in sleep braids, and by the time I woke up in the morning my hair was glossy, tangle-free and smooth with hardly a hint of fluffiness, aka much more manageable for me to manipulate into any style I wanted. I've only ever used it WO--been WO for five or six years now? I'll only use shampoo if my hair gets lice or exceptionally grimey, or if I'm wanting a quick adjustment to water in a different country while travelling (but even then I'll only use it once and my hair will adjust back to WO over about a week).

The only thing back then was if I wanted to wear my hair wurly-curly I'd either have to wash and sleep without braids or wash suuuper early in the morning so it would dry before going out, no BBB anywhere near my hair. Nowadays I use it less just because I'm out of habit (kids I was au pairing got lice, I got lice, I didn't want to infect my brush). The main difference I've noticed between then and now is that my hair is more likely to frizz now than it was when I used my BBB more, and I definitely need to use oil on my ends more as well. Plus when I left my hair down back then a few ringlets and a handful of wurls would pop up over the day, but overall it was a lot smoother and not nearly wurly-curly to the amount it is when I haven't brushed it. I'd like to try brushing once a week just to see if it helps tame my frizzies more, but idk, I've gotten so use to wearing my hair down without much styling compared to before. I mean, I liked my wurls and curls then, but I'm a bit more attached to them now and find it awkward when my hair's down and there's hardly anything there in terms of wurls or curls.

If you'd like I can try to find a picture of my hair then and now, though I'm not sure I'll be able to find any. I don't have a lot of pictures of me or my hair.

I'm about 3a I would say and have been wo for almost 4 months. I have curl on day 1, and then after smp I have smooth waves until I wet again. I don't have pics for this forum. There is tons of info in the wo thread :)

If you happen to have pics lying around, I'd love to see them but if it's a hassle, it's no big deal! :o Thanks for the info!!

I love BBB, especially on my scalp, though I can't really use one on my dry curls without it going poof, like others said. I usually only use a BBB on my length when it is just braid waves. I find that using oils with the BBB can make my hair very smooth and silky looking, but it definitely will interfere with any curl patterns. I might have pictures somewhere, I'll have to check later (I'm on my phone at the moment). :)

I found a few! Unfortunately they're not the best quality because they were all taken on a phone, but I hope they still help. None of them are terribly recent, either. :/ The Christmas one's from 2014 and the teapot earrings one is from early 2015; the rest are from sometime between 2011 and 2013.

The first picture is my hair back when I used my BBB a lot. If I remember right I had only used my fingers to comb out my hair that day. The second picture is after I had barely used my BBB for, what...eight months? The picture's from just after we got back from our working holidays--I barely ran my fingers through my hair before putting the front up. ^^;; Not exactly as much effort as I'd have put in for going out of the house. You can't tell, but I'm in my pjs there and was tired as because yay, jet lag.

This image was after using my BBB either that morning or the night before, I can't remember. orz (Sorry it's such bad quality omg, it's the best one I could find of it down. It's not even a really good representation of it... I'm sure mum has others somewhere that are better, it's just finding them that's the issure.) The second's BBB + sleep braids. :) That day was windy haha.

Oh! This one sort of shows the length:

It looks like it might have been a bit dry there. :/

You don't have to use bbb to be wo. People in wo thread also use fingers and combs. At my first attempts I used plastic fine tooth comb and now I use horn. I can't help you because I do have definition problems and kind of could use help myself, heh. Can't really finger detangle wet on wo, it's different than with condish on.

Oh thank you! Sorry it took so long to reply, I'm still getting the hang of things around here.

Well it looks like your waves/curls held up pretty well even with the BBB! I'm surprised. I think I will continue to consider getting one!

Thanks again. :o
