So I haven't cut or trimmed my hair in a long time so my ends are getting kind of uneven, everything is one length and WAS blunt cut, but as I said it's getting kind of uneven.
I've just hit tailbone and am thinking of getting a U hemline because I think a blunt cut almost looks like you are cutting the body and kind of makes you look shorter - just my thoughts. My hair is still quite thick and straight, but It is usually wavy because it do wear it in a loose bun at the nape of my neck when I sleep, or in braids.

I looked through the archives and heard there being U shape, slight U shape and a deep U shape and I have no idea what these look like and what would look best. Obviously I need a good photo of someone at tailbone length with a U hemline so I can take it to the hair dresser.

If anyone could help that would be great!

Take a look at Feye's instructions - it comes with pictures (if you click through to the instructions for a U shape you will see):

To me, a soft U shape looks like a blended mix of a straight line and a U shape: the U starts very low and is very flat/short so it can almost look like a rounded straight line: e.g. pic 1 (http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6185/6137479281_911ac46719.jpg), pic 2 (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/image.php?u=58578&type=sigpic&dateline=1428106949), pic 3 (http://fc09.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2013/288/a/4/okt1113_by_fortresca-d6qkush.jpg), pic 4 (http://women-hair-styles.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/Long-Hair-v-shape-hair-cut-before-and-after.jpg) (on the left), pic 5 (https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/14/98/74/149874c0f7b9c6265e7ad28a921d84d2.jpg) (on the left), pic 6 (http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-1UkbIe93whs/T2ut7IEX3GI/AAAAAAAADjg/HtHugtVeaxk/s400/CreaClip+(6).png) (on the left)

A deep U shape starts pretty high up, it can look almost like a U turning into a V: e.g. pic 1 (https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/29/35/3f/29353f68c2f280d58f07768583a549fb.jpg), pic 2 (https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/30/fc/29/30fc294e1f520c15d764f06d37f9fbdc.jpg), pic 3 (https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/9d/bc/f4/9dbcf494270af6613181676a7565d9e4.jpg), pic 4 (http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-mKtFDO77X4w/T8Eg9JakusI/AAAAAAAABT0/1_GHpJORDFo/s640/SDC18097.JPG), pic 5 (http://myhairstyles.website/img/how-to-do-u-shape-hair-cut-at-home/how-to-do-u-shape-hair-cut-at-home-4.jpg), pic 6 (http://i755.photobucket.com/albums/xx191/litlhafgost/Hair1.jpg)

Of course, it will look different on different textures, different hair types, with or without layers, etc... and the steepness and the overall shape of the U is on a spectrum, kind of between a rounded V and O and a straight line...

I'd read up on Spidermom's trimming method and Feye's self trim. And if you are going to a salon for a trim, I'd suggest googling images until you find hair of very similar type to yours with the hemline shapes you like the most and maybe even shapes you don't want to get (to demonstrate some critical details, differences, clarify the nuances) and bring those pictures to your consultation to make sure you get the shape you want. Good luck! :cheer:
