View Full Version : What kind of bangs to get?

I'm dressing up as Sarah Palin for Halloween since I can't go too crazy for work. So with that in mind, I've been thinking that instead of trying to rig some fake bangs on a headband to wear, I'll just cut some of my hair to make bangs.

The problem is that bangs make me look 12 years old. ^_^;;; I haven't had them in five years, but I think I'd look alright with them. My criteria is easy maintenance, flatter my face, and are professional looking since I'm trying to move into my career for the first time.

Please help!

A little side-swept fringe would be flattering, I think. And you could always make 'em really poofy on Halloween to look a little more Palinesque ;)

I'm in the exact same boat - I want a fringe so that when I have my hair up there is some shape around my face, but it needs to be able to look smart too.

If you don't want to look 12, then I'd veer away from getting a straight-line fringe cut (http://www.hairspotlight.com/images/liv-fringe.jpg)

I'd go for a sweeping, soft fringe that the hairdresser will cut by dragging the scissors diagonally,

Hope that helps?

That's a very good idea. I usually got the blunt-edge cut growing up. At one point, a stylist had my bangs starting half-way back on my head! It was so bizarre!

Thanks for the photos. They're very helpful. I really like the bangs in this picture: http://www.poster.net/olsen-twins-the/olsen-twins-the-photo-xl-the-olsen-twins-6234390.jpg but I fear they may be too heavy for my already heavy face.

Thanks again!

I keep tring to achieve bangs like this but somehow I can't get the look? It should be so simple but yet I can't seem to recreate the bangs.

I can't remember where I read about trying to create the side-swept bangs, but it had stated that no one's hair really falls like that naturally. I think it mentioned using a curling iron or a round brush and blow dryer to set the bangs. I can't remember which magazine or the details at the moment.

I have to use heat to do that too when I want to do it. It's pretty easy though and lasts pretty well. You have to have about nose tip bangs for it to look good I think. Don't curl them too much or they won't look right. Since I keep bangs I don't mind using heat on them since they're cut quite often. Right now I have soft shorter bangs but from time to time I let them grow out for a different look.

If all else fails, you could get extensions and cut them short enough for bangs and clip it in with your hair style. This way you don't have to cut any fringe :)

I like these too... unfortunately, I cannot get my own fringe to cooperate, but I aim for it against the odds

I know I end up just pulling mine back anyway cause I can't get used to hair on my face.

I have tried staighting irons, curling irons, etc. My hair just won't cooperate it has a mind of it's own. But I keep getting new hair in front and I end up pulling it back anyways.

Put your photo on taaz.com and experiment with the different styles with bangs. That was the best way for me to see how I would look with bangs.

Same boat as you--I cut mine a few weeks ago, and got Palin comments, so I went with it for Halloween. Of course, I don't wear mine like hers normally.

You want to be in bang hell and live with dealing with bangs and/or growing them out just for a Halloween costume? I think you should seriously rethink this. Do the fake bangs on a headband and you won't be regretting cutting in bangs for the next few years. It's Halloween. It's ONE day of the year, fun that it might be. Do you really want to deal with the consequences of cutting bangs? Don't do it.

I have bangs, and they go perfect with my long hair. Bangs make long hair look good. :) What I did was have them cut in different lengths, the longest being to the bottoms of my ear lobes and the shortest to the bottom of my nose. If you don't want to look 12, just don't cut them so short.

I LOVE my sideswept bangs. I would suggest long-ish (at least upper cheek for the shortest part), parted on the side and sideswept. I don't think these make people look younger. I think they're a sophisticated look. Good luck!

I like my sideswept bangs as well. I've grown them out (took ages) only to hate it when they were finally the same length as my hair and promptly cut them back in.
