My hair has gotten quite long, almost waist length - I've trimmed it a few times. I have baby fine thin hair so the ends are always kinda ragged looking and it is thin in the temple area. Anyways I have been trying to fix my hair in different ways using my hair toys but I can't get them to work! I bought a three pronged hair pin that is for using to make styles like french twist updo and others. I can't get my hair to do a french twist! I have so much hair that I can't get it to be tucked in, the ends which are brownish hang out no matter how I tuck the ends in, and my ends are brownish and really looks weird against my white, silver, gray, and black hair.

I don't know what to do. Summer is coming and I need to be able to do some updo's! Help!

French twist can be pretty difficult (sometimes impossible) on really thick or really long hair. I'd recommend trying the Cinnabun, Braided Cinnabun, Disc Bun and Lazy Wrap Bun - they are really good beginner buns. ;) If your hair is too thick or too short for these styles, you could start off with a half-up bun and then just twist/braid and wrap the rest of the hair around it. ;)

This is how I do a french twist:

Gather hair at the nape of your neck, twist. Hold the twist up and use a finger to anchor it near your crown. Fold the tail down and tuck it under the twist. Fold up ends and tuck them in as necessary. Secure with many pins, or with a flexi-8 across the twist, or with crossed sticks. I'll bet a ficcare would work great too.

There are several ways of doing a French Twist, but this is the way I've found works best and hides my unsightly ends.

Dear merseaone, how wonderful that your hair has grown back in and so long. :) Here is my go-to bun, I got the instructions years ago from ajr, who may or may not be on LHC any longer, but this has worked well for me.

My hair is not very thick or wavy or heavy, so my hairsticks tend to be rather slim - pencil or chopstick thickness, 5.5 - 6 inches long. This bun can be done with a fork but that eats up more length and seems tighter, sometimes too tight for me.

I forgot to add that Firefromwithin had a few good videos on how to do French Twist that can work for longer hair :) :
- French Twist with compacting down hair with a hidden braid: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KCZ1ZxnB_vA
- French Twist with a loop: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-nyDmSNsR74

Thanks y'all. I use to do french twists all the time but I can't get it to work now. Could be some of my hair is thinning due to age or something. I don't have trouble with buns for the most part. I will just have to take the hair thingies back cuz I can't use them.

Don't be too hasty to return the hair toys; sometimes just trying a different style makes all the difference. Plus I've found that sometimes longer hair is needed for updos with thin, fine, slippery hair.
