Does anybody know nice buns that work for bra strap length hair? I see many pretty buns on here for the long hairers which I just can't do!! Either doesn't work or is just ridiculously small!

Please share any cute buns which work for around BSL hair! :D;):eyebrows:

I liked braided buns held up with Bobby pins, or made with two smaller braids (rather than one big braid).
Example:
http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=17687&d=1434186476
These worked better on BSL hair for me but did still require a lot of hair pins to keep them up. I definitely required a braid or something to keep all my hair back (couldn't start from a pony tail). Hair sticks also didn't work for me hair at this length but that could be due to the thickness and layers as well. I am also not that skilled with updos so I am sure there will be others that have better suggestions :o
Hope this helped! Good luck!

Hope this helps!

Looks like you have about the same hair type as me. This is the length that I started using the pencil bun found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z0k3dD4qX34

I normally wear a side braid, a french braid, and just recently a cinnabun with spin pins, and the pencil bun at home. Good luck! :flower:

Disc bun (https://youtu.be/iViNkltTb9Y) is always good

Disc bun worked for me at bsl. At just a few cm past bsl I could do lwb and nautilus.

If your hair is thicker it may take more lenght but I think disc bun should work and it looks big ;)

I really only did a cinnabon /blob at BSL. BSL was longer on me than on some people, too. A proper lazy wrap bun wouldn't stay for more than 20 minutes or so until I was close to waist. I could manage a disc bun too, although I haven't done it often because I always seem to get some kinked ends.
You should be able to do a folded braid or a french twist at BSL.

I could probably have done a lazy wrap bun at BSL, but it would depend whether you're on the thin or thick end of ii. Otherwise, your go-tos are probably going to be the disc bun, pencil bun, and maybe cinnamon bun (though it usually requires quite a few pins).

Do some french twists, if you can, before you have too much hair for them to look sleek. :D

Braided buns sound pretty! I'll definitely have to try one! I have whittled some small hair sticks out of twigs, have had one in all day today and seems to be holding good!

Currently in the process of trying to figure out disc bun for my thickness! Lazy wrap works for me right now! Just tried it, also looks pretty big!!

Will look into cinnabon! Lazy wrap buns like my hair, :) still trying to work out disc bun! I will look at foled braids and french twists!

Gibson tucks always worked well when my hair was BSL. Braided helped too, and I could do a modified nautilus. Arctic also came up with a fan bun, but I don't have the link to that.

Gibson tucks are one of my favourites! What is a modified nautilus like? I will have to have a look and see if I can find a fan bun!

There's always the peacock twist to help you out if you can't quite manage buns yet. I wore one (with more length folded, more like a log roll) from about APL all the way to waist/hip.

A modified nautilus uses fewer than four fingers for the initial loop: one for the shortest hair, then progressing to 2 and 3 as the hair lengthens. Four fingers will likely need waist or longer, at least on me.

A variation on the peacock twist is the faux figure 8 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RQPsFqCNTqA), and it works with clips (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=18184&d=1437837933) or forks (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=17726&d=1434383084).

I was able to do a disc bun months before I could do a lazy wrap bun, so if LWB's are giving you trouble, definitely try a disc bun. It can be a little complicated getting everything where it's supposed to go, I guess, but it's worth it because it's very stable! Then if you need additional stability, you can also braid both halves of the disc bun (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=19234&d=1443568917).

These are all some very nice ideas!!! I'll definately look at the faux figure 8. Theres not enough days in the week to try all the buns I want!!

Sorry for resurrecting an old thread but I wish I would have known about this one a decade ago so I thought maybe someone else has the same issues I have/had with single sticks or stick-like tools.

No matter what bun I did I never managed to get them to hold up with just one stick for longer then half an hour or so until they unravelled completely. I always had to use two and even then it wasn't a guarantee for a long lasting, secure hold.

The same buns worked great after I was lucky enough to find one of those really rather flimsy cheapo wooden forks you are constantly in fear of breaking so I think it wasn't bad technique on my part (?)

This bun ? Holds tight like a pitbull and doesn't let go no matter what I do. With a simple single chopstick, pen, pencil, screwdriver... basically whatever is in reach at that moment.

So, if single sticks usually don't work for you but you have one you are dying to wear, or don't have a fork yet or are on the go and all you can get your hands on is something vaguely resembling a chopstick give this bun a try. Game changer for me this growing cycle. Found it here a couple weeks back while doing my henna research and have been wearing it exclusively - just because I can :D

Now, back to etsy and oggling all those lovely single hairsticks :o
