I found this video very helpful for doing a nautilus bun on my not-quite-long-enough hair. It comes out really cute, too.
Thought I would post this in case it can help someone else :)

Here is my little nautilus bun >_<
I need to practice a lot more though. It was only getting it right about every third bun I tried.

I'm one of those people that when my hair is put up in a bun you can't tell how long it is haha. I feel like my buns are so small compared to others with hair my length. I feel like I won't have a good sized one until i'm all the way to my butt.

I think it's really cool when a bun is small then is taken down and is surprisingly long. :)
Here is how my nautilus came out using this method. I think I did the twist part wrong. I swear it looked more like hers when I was trying it earlier lol.

It still turned out cool looking though :)
It would pass for "I did it on purpose" in my book lol.

I am going to try this right away! It might get messy because of my layers, but I have iii hair and most buns are a problem at my length. Thank you sooo much! :)

I think the layers sticking out on hers looks really cute actually- I bet it will look great!

I tried it, and after sitting (just SITTING, I was studying for finals) with the bun for half an hour, I had a random loop of hair dangling out near my nape. I think buns aren't going to work for me until I hit TBL or longer.

Yep, it's not worth it trying to finagle your hair into a bun with it pulling and dropping out. Try different updos; I'm sure there's lots of them around to do at this stage.

I tried this and my hair certainly is up in some kind of bun that vaguely looks like one in the video  Practice, practice... Always nice learning new buns!

Oh that's such a great video! This version of the Nautilus by DreamSheep and the pencil bun version (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z0k3dD4qX34) are the only 2 ways that the Nautilus can sometimes work for my hair - I think the Nautilus can be quite tricky to do actually, because of the size of the loop, the twist and especially that motion of pushing down the loop over the bulb/base...
And I really miss DreamSheep's presence on the boards. :blossom: I really hope she'll be back soon!

Thanks for posting this video. I think this is an entirely different bun from the nautilus but it's been comfortably holding my hair the last two days. I really like it!
And yes, DreamSheep has gorgeous hair. Glad she made the video!
