Hi, I'm new too and have a lot of the same questions. I think APL is arm pit length. I believe that classic length is hair that hits the place where the thighs join the "backside," but I am not entire certain. I'll be looking forward to the answers to your other questions!

Have either of you checked out the Articles section? There is a lot of information in there on hair care and styling, as well as on the LHC abbreviations and terms, such as APL and Classic Length, etc. :)

-What is APL and classic lenght?
Already answered
-How do you properly oil your hair, how often?
There are several different ways, none of them "proper." I oil from the ears down on wet hair only on days that I use shampoo (twice a week).
-What is the most common "terminal length" for people?
Not sure about this one. There aren't many people who grow to terminal, so I would think it'd be hard to say.
-I shampoo and condition my hair everyday, is that bad?
It could be, but I can't tell you. The only way you can really figure it out is to try other things and see if your hair "gets better."
-All my shampoos have "cones" is that bad?
Depends. For my hair, no. For yours, maybe. The only way I found out was to try non-cone shampoos. My hair doesn't care either way.
-I change up my shampoos and conditioners almost daily, is that bad?
Nope. I use several different conditioners, a different one every day then repeat.
-How does one use "hair sticks" ?
There are many things you can do with hair sticks. Try checking out the article section here. Also, some journals have directions. Youtube has some video tutorials. I'd also suggestion the Styling Station at www.longhairloom.com (http://www.longhairloom.com)
-Generally does peoples hair grow 1/2" per month?
That's what I hear.
Hope that was helpful. Welcome to the site! :flower:

Here's a good thing for me to do while I'm taking a break from my paper :D First off, welcome to LHC!
What is APL and classic lenght?
APL, as someone already said is arm pit length (check out the articles section for more length names). Classic is where the bum ends and your thigh begins.
-How do you properly oil your hair, how often?
This really depends on the person. I try to oil after every wash or rinse, to "lock" the moisture into my hair. I use coconut oil and put a small amount about pea sized in my palm, and then rub it from about the shoulders down my hair. Again, there is an article either here or on the archived boards about how to oil hair.
-What is the most common "terminal length" for people?
It really depends. I think most people can get to tailbone at least. It depends on your shed rate, and growth rate. There is a terminal length calculater out there somewhere but I'm not sure where that is.
-I shampoo and condition my hair everyday, is that bad?
Not neccessarily. I don't need to wash my hair that often - many on the boards wash only once or twice a week. Try stretching your washes and see what happens. If, after a few weeks of this your hair is a greasy mess, try revising your routine. One of our "rules" is that there is no one way to take care of hair. You've got to make your routine specifically for your hair. Try looking at those with similar hairtypes and if you haven't already looked, check out the articles for newbies
-All my shampoos have "cones" is that bad?
Personally, I like as few cones as possible. Others, like Amoretti (I believe) use cones. As I said above it depends on your hair. You can try cone free at some point if you want. Cones aren't the evil, but some find them problematic.
-I change up my shampoos and conditioners almost daily, is that bad?
You mean you use different ones each day? I don't think it'd matter too much. I'm curious about why you do that though.
-How does one use "hair sticks" ?
Oooh, someone wrote a how to somewhere but my brain is swiss cheese so I don't know where it is. Generally, after you make a bun, you grab a small amount of bunned hair with the stick (facing away from the bun) and then twist the stick back the direction of the bun and push it through the bun in a weaving motion. Does that make sense? Try watching some of the hairstyling videos to see what the heck I'm talking about.
-Generally does peoples hair grow 1/2" per month?
I have no idea ;)
Thank you so much to all that reply!!! :heartbeat
You're welcome!

First of all, hello and welcome.
The first thing I suggest you do is make a post to the "New? Start here" section -- it's the standard place to introduce yourself. You can also give a synopsis of what your hair is like now and what your typical routine is. The next thing is to click the link that says "Articles" in the bar on the top of the page, and start browsing those. Those will tell you a lot about our funny little customs here on LHC.
-What is APL and classic lenght?
As stated above, APL = armpit length. Classic length is "the bottom of your bottom" -- where your rear meets your legs. Common LHC abbreviations (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/vbjournal.php?do=article&articleid=10)
-How do you properly oil your hair, how often?
Methods of oiling hair vary -- some people get better results when they oil their hair while it's wet (usually right after a wash), others prefer to wait til their hair is dry. Some people oil daily, others oil right after a wash, some oil heavily a few hours before washing, and a few find that oils don't work well for them. Heidi W.'s Oiling Tutorial (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/vbjournal.php?do=article&articleid=71) will tell you a lot.
-What is the most common "terminal length" for people?
Very difficult to say, because "terminal length" depends as much on how hair is cared for and the kind of wear and tear it receives as it does on health and genetics. Many people are at least able to get their hair to their tailbone with good care, but whether you can go longer varies wildly.
-I shampoo and condition my hair everyday, is that bad?
It's not great, but some people to find it necessary. Generally, LHCers recommend that you don't shampoo the length of your hair that much, because most of what needs to be cleaned is the oils on your scalp. Washing less is often easier, particularly if you normally let your hair airdry (as most of us do). It also means less wear on the hair, if you're growing for extreme lengths (generally classic length and beyond). You might want to try out some of the alternative wash methods that are popular here, such as "condition-wash-condition" (CWC), particularly if your hair is dry away from your scalp.
-All my shampoos have "cones" is that bad?
Products with "cones" have a tendency to build up, so you probably want to at least have a clarifying shampoo that doesn't have any, for occasional use when your hair gets gunky. Different people react differently to cones -- it's up to you whether you want to use them. Article: To Cone, or Not To Cone (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/vbjournal.php?do=article&articleid=13)
-I change up my shampoos and conditioners almost daily, is that bad?
Only if you want to know how you react long-term to a specific product.
-How does one use "hair sticks" ?
They're a little tricky to get the hang of at first, but the basic idea is that you want to use the stick to skewer a bit of your updo (such as a bun coil), then some scalp hair, then more of the updo. Shell's instructions (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/vbjournal.php?do=article&articleid=20) are quite good.
-Generally does peoples hair grow 1/2" per month?
As a rough guide, yes. However, it might be more correct to say that people's hair generally grows about 6 inches/year, since hair often grows in stops and starts. Of course, that varies wildly. Some people only get 3-4 inches/year, others get a foot/year or more.
