Hey all,

I am thinking about trimming my ends.

Goals:
- cut off dry and broken ends
- blunt hemline
- fix uneven hemline
- soft U or straight hemline

Currently:
- might be some leftover layers
- growing out chemical
- thinning/fairytale ends
- the bottom layer of my hair is curlier, while the front is straighter, so it appears longer
- the right side of my hair is a bit longer
- I wear a side part ( to the left)

So here it is. I would like to trim my hair at home, and I would have a friend to help, but I dont really know what instructions to give. I read the haircutting tutorial that is posted often on LHC (with the 3 different hemlines, with a hairtie), but I tried that myself before and I didnt like the results. Any tips on how to achieve my goals? Is it possible?

I will not trim until I am as sure as possible.

Here are some current pictures:

Maybe have a friend try with Feye's instructions, if you feel unsure. I always let my mom trim, but we do it right before a wash, so my waves can be totally brushed out (and they have sagged by that time, anyway - it helps with the brushing). Then trim. It's better, IMMHO, as a newbie to trim on dry hair rather than wet. Wet hair is so slippery and needs to be controlled much more than dry hair.

Thank you! I always trim dry because of the shrinkage and waves :) I wouldn't call myself a newbie, more ...unsatisfied:DD

A video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L9Erf49Eyxc) to help?

Yes, it's the same method you've used. :) I usually trim just a little at one time, 1/2" or so, but have had decent results. I've also gathered all of my hair into a ponytail on the very top of my head, bent over and snipped 1" off that. The "pony-on-top-of-the-head" method gives long layers, if you're braver and more vigorous with trimming. (I don't get much of that because I'm only taking off a few, long wispies.)

I'm mildly afraid of botching up my hair, so just trim a little at a time. Sometimes I trim 1/2" a month for a few months. Sometimes I'll trim, check, then trim off a little more. :)

I think you can do this, and get good results. :)

ETA: Do you think 3 smiley faces is enough? :) :) :) :wigtongue
